Im a little shocked, I care a lot more than I thought I would that she dosent like it. not only does she not like it... she HATES it! haha. infact told me its awfull. my mom is not a mean. pushy, bossy, bitchy person. lol so Im a little taken back.
Did yu have people whos opinions you care about really HATE your baby name choices?
I had many people dislike the name we chose for our son, Xavier. A couple rude comments were made.
For me, I thought more about the fact that he was my child not theirs, and DH and I agreed on the name, so it was going to be the name whether they loved it or not. Now that he's been here for 3 years, no one has said one bad thing about the name. Perhaps they still secretly hate it, or they've gotten over it. Either way, I'm happy with my decision. So in the end, I think you should stick with the name you love because if you don't use it now, you'll probably be wishing you had.
We've been TTC #2 for over 2 years now, and I've changed a few(thousand) times my favorite top names. (lol) I never once give a single thought about whether or not my family is going to like it. What matters to me is if it fits our family and is something DH and I love.
My parents hated my 1st choice for our 2nd boy. It didn't really surprise me that they didn't like it though. I used it anyways and I'm glad I did, because now they like the name! His name is Kingston Edward, by the way and it suits him PERFECTLY! haha
And then, the reverse happened with my daughter (our 3rd child), I expected them to hate the name Paris.. when instead they loved it, which made me like it more, of course. Then, after she was born & already named, I found out that sooo many other people couldn't stand it. That was definitely aggravating!
Just let the name resinate with her for a while. It may grow on her. The more she hears it, the more she might like it. Don't let it her opinion be your final say. :)
Here's the advice I always liked--names, like anything else, are a style thing. Some like retro-chic, others like punk-rock, some like offbeat--since every one has their own style, be selective about who's opinion you let sway you. Their taste may just be different from you.
Listen to the reason your mom "Hates" this name. Does her reasoning resonate with you--like it gives your child awkward initials (ASS? PIG?) or sound cloddy with your surname?
If she objects to the name on mere "I just don't care for it", take her opinion with a grain of salt and name your baby what you feel would best serve him. After all, this is just the first in many decisions you'll have to make for your little one, and chances are, mom's not going to approve of all of them.
