Do you put as much dilberation and thought into your pets' names as you do your childrens?

Do you have "rules" for what you will name your newest pet, or do you just choose what you like?

Are you more conservative with your taste in pet names or children's names?

With pets, I pick what I like based on what I am into at the time.

Oscar, I was really wanting a sassy pair of Oscar de la Renta shoes that I had seen online.

Remy (Gambit) was named after a comic book character, Remy laBeau, code name Gambit, who was a character in Ultimate X-Men.

Pepper Ann was named after Pepper Potts in the "Iron Man" movie, which DH and I had just recently gone to see!

My oldest cat picked her own name in a way. LOL. I got online, and literally just got on babynames.com and went searching for names that I liked and would fit an animal too. I wrote several names on a piece of paper and asked my brother and sister what they thought. I couldn't decide which name I wanted, so I jokingly threw the paper in the floor towards her and said she can pick her own name and she slapped the paper. Her paw landed on Shelby. She has been Shelby ever since. Or Shelbykins. Or Smeowy.. because she used to meow, A LOT.

Shelby:

(Notice no picture of Xavier and Shelby. She is not his biggest fan.. lol)

Our other two cats are sisters. I for some reason wanted to name a cat Moo, because I love cows. I came accross this website and she had photos of her cat and it's name was Moo. I was sold. Vowed to name my next cat Moo. So that was easy. and the 2nd cat was for DS and I couldn't figure out what to name it. What would be simple and easy for Xavier to say and remember? I decided on Star because Xavier was really in to looking at the stars and naming the shape. So then they became Star and Moon so they matched, except Moo goes by Moo. Her vet paperwork says Moon though. ;]

these are my furry babies Autumn Pixie and Ivy Penelope

when we bought our house and the same same time we were told having a baby would be hard for us ... we adopted 2 cats ... sisters named Etna (eek) and Penelope ... Etna we renamed Ivy and Penelope we renamed Willow (she looked like the kitty from the Golden Book "Pussy Willow") Willow got very sick ... we nn"d her Willow Angel while we trying to keep her alive ... she passed at 10 mos old ... Ivy was devisated ... I gave her Willow's pre-adoption name as her mn

Ivy Penelope  (so that's how she got her name)

about the same time we lost Willow my brother got a kitten for his daughters ... they named her Ally Cat ... she was not the cat for them ... he called looking for a new home for her ... so we took her

with her orange colors in her markings we named her Autumn and we wanted a mn for her too so we went back to the list we had for the first 2 kitties and Pixie was a name we concidered for Willow ... so we named her Autumn Pixie

Our dog is named Lola. It didn't take much time to figure out her name. I loved the name Lola but would never use it on one of my kids so I gave the name to the dog instead.

We pick nature names for our pets ...
Names we have for a puppy when my girls get older
Cricket, Briar, TigerLily, Poppy, Lilybelle. Middle names will depend on the puppy

We don't have any pets right now.. But I love when animals are named after other animals.. My mom had a cat named Moose. And I know someone with a dog named Bear. "Little Bill" has a hamster named Elephant. I just think that's fun. :)

I am pretty picky about names, that is until the last set we got.  The kids picked out the kitties and they got to name them.  So we ended up with Rocket and Daisy.

Usually, I like to give my pets names that I would never use for chidren.  We've had Esmeralda.

And Calliope

And before the digital camera- There was Hamlet (kitty) and Galileo and Copurnicus (parakeets), and Mercury (kitty)
