Shea's Search Series
The Definitive Guide to Self-Empowered Adoptee Search

This large article has 6 sections in it- on "how" to search.  It  really is a *must* read!

Ohio has:
no provisions for obtaining non-id.
Search Mechanisms- passive registry for parents, adoptee, and sibs
records access- by court order only

**Ohio:Individuals adopted prior to 1964 may obtain their original birth certificates upon request, UNLESS sometime after 1964, someone requested the "reissuance" of a birth certificate in the adopted name, in which case, the original birth certificate was sealed. For adoptions occurring after 1964, access to the original birth certificate is available by court order only.

**Network!!!! Contact S&S groups- they know 'how' to search Ohio! Seems there is a birthindex in Ohio that can be helpful in search.  S&S groups are invaluable resource for emotional support as well.

Hi, I know searching is very frustrating.  I also started searching when I was 18 and I finally found my birth families when I was about 34 years old.  The big thing is I never gave up.  I did take breaks every now and then when things got to overwhelming.

What information is any do you have?

Adoption Agency:

Any info on birth parents such as ages and where they were from:

If you can any of these questions at least you have a place to start.  I live in New York State and I sent away for my non identiying information.  Check for Ohio if that is the state you were adopted in and see if you can request yours.

Also, have you posted your information on any of the search websites?  There are tons of them.  You never know, maybe your birth family is looking for you.

Talk to ya soon!!  You are not alone!!
