Why a Dobe?

Why did you choose to get a Doberman? What drew you to the breed? Did you have one as a child?

Here's my story!

As a kid I LOVED German Shepherds, I was obsessed with the Rin Tin Tin show!  I got my 1st dog at age 11, after 11 years of begging lol, he was a German Shepherd, Whippet, and possible Doberman mix. After bringing Rocky home my love of GSD's expanded to a love of Dobermans too. I started reading about them, learned they had all the traits I loved about the GSD, plus a few! Like the GSD they were incredibly smart and trainable, they were protective and loyal, they were large, they looked absolutely gorgeous! But to the list I could add, a sleeker lower maintenance, lower shedding, lower oder coat! (Which as an adult with my own home I now appreciate even more!) No tail... I love not getting whipped with a tail, not having to worry about a tail knocking things off the coffee table, etc... And less whining! Most GSD's I know (and as a trainer I've met A LOT) are very whinny and vocal and it gets old! At some point I went from a GSD person to an ALL OUT Dobe person! Once I had my own place (with a big yard) I started saving my money and started researching breeders. About a year later I had my boy! He's three and a half now :)  

I love dogs in general obviously, but I don't think any other breed really compares! I do want to get a Giant Schnauzer someday, but I'll have a Dobe too! I'll definitely always have to have a Dobe in my home!

 

Here's a pic of Rocky, my 1st canine love! He died a couple years ago at 15 years. He was the best dog a little girl could have hoped for!

Why a Dobe? Because my Husband has always wanted one :) Me I am more the Mini Weeny Dog type LOL!!

We had a doberman growing up and I always knew when I got my first home I was going to get another doberman. I heard on the trading post (a radio show) that a woman had a 2 year old female free to a good home I called right away. I was the 2nd caller and didn't get her but she said they had 9 of her puppies for sale. I decided to buy one for my mom and raise it until it was no longer a puppy. Then a month later the breeder told my hubby that she still had her sister and would make us a deal on her so we got her too. My brother took my mom's puppy since she had so many medical issues (and still does). Unfortunately it was not the right time for our family to have a hyper, not to mention big puppy so we gave her back, BUT as soon as my kids grow up and I'm no longer doing daycare I will definitely get another doberman.
