I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO MAKE RECIPIES USING BEANS.

They are a very economical way to get protein into my families diet! They are also healthy and fat free!

I want to use them.. but really don't know how..

HELP!

well, most beans should be soaked over night to help soften, then drained and rinsed. I only make pinto beans, then either serve them whole or refry them. After I soak them, drain them, then put them in a pot to boil. I also either add lard or bacon grease for flavor. No, not healthy, but very yummy, lol! I bring them to a boil then reduce to simmer and let them sit there for at least an hour or longer. The longer the better. Then I either serve them straight from there or I refry them in some oil, lard or bacon grease and then serve refried beans. I'm Mexican so we eat beans a lot, lol! Hope that helps a little. Also, I'm pretty sure when you buy a bag of beans it gives you cooking instructions on the back of the bag, then maybe try to google the type of bean for recipes :)

i do the same as Melissa when i cook beans, but i cook them in the crock pot ( yes it takes way longer but i am at home) i also add onion and fresh garlic...and ground beef  if i am makeing chili.  I like to use the Carroll Shelby's brand of seasonings...it is in a box....

i also like to cook black beans and add nothing to them.....add them to tacos...salsa....etc

i had a very picky eater and when she was small i would cook garbanzo beans and blend them up.....add to creamed soups such as potato, etc.....she never knew.....

I know this is an old post, but we eat a lot of beans. DH is mexican and his mom has taught me lots of tips for cooking beans. I prefer to cook them in the crock pot. Takes about 6-7 hours for 1lb. It is faster if you soak them overnight. Make sure to rinse them.

As for using them with meals, I make sure they are salted. We eat bean soup. You can add salsa or lime to flavor the beans. I also top them with shredded white cheese. Eat them with warm corn tortillas! We love it..

I also blend them in the blender and make my own refried beans. I make bean tostadas. For breakfast, I make scrambled eggs, and add the blended beans and eat with warm corn tortillas and salsa.

After your beans soak overnight, put them in a pot with the bone from a ham and add some water and let it simmer for about 3-6 hours (when the beans are done. my dad taught me how to make this soup and it is delicious. you need nothing else. We make this after ham on thanksgiving, or easter or whenever.

Also make sure to "pick" your beans first before you soak them as sometimes rocks or clumps of dirt or even corn can be in there.
