My 3 year old has been constantly hungry lately
The past month or two, he has been almost obsessed with food. He never used to be this way, he used to be the kind of kid who ate a couple bites of food and was full, kind of grazed all day etc. I've always given him smaller portions because of that, so I'm not sure what a normal portion is for a 3 year old, so at dinner he's always asking for seconds now, sometimes more. I try and make sure his breakfast, lunch and dinner are all well balanced, he eats pretty healthy and he's not very picky. He's the kind of kid that gets excited when you make fish and broccoli for dinner, and disappointed if you give him mac and cheese. I give him snacks and stuff in between meals as well, but its also between that that he's been asking for food. My husband works 3rd shift so he eats dinner with us but he'll eat when he gets home which isn't the same time DS and I are eating, and DS immediately asks "Are you going to share your food with me?!" or something, also if I just go into the kitchen to get a drink he runs in there "are you making me something to eat?" It was honestly just such a sudden change I don't get it. He had a growth spurt in April, then his appetite tapered off again, then it came back never went away it seems... He's always been on the smaller side, I think he's in the 10th percentile for height and 15th for weight but he was over 9lbs when he was born.. I've been trying different things, trying to get him to drink milk with his lunch (he's not a huge fan) to keep him full longer. Putting a little bit more peanut butter on his sandwich, thinking maybe the protein will keep him full, and we use multigrain bread, never white bread etc... I just don't know whats going on, or even if I should be concerned? He hasn't gained any weight at all, or grown any since this started. I don't want to overfeed him, and I don't want him to develop unhealthy eating habbits either. But, I don't want to deny him food at the same time. He couldn't care less about food if he's outside though, but then he wants to eat the second he comes inside, whether he's been outside 15 minutes or 3 hours.. He has a doctors appointment coming up next week, I'm going to talk to the doctor about it too but I figured I'd ask on here.
