Will Food Deception Ever Stop Trying to Win Your Heart?

by Abby_Campbell, www.911BodyResQ.com

It's amazing what we find on television anymore, but one place I thought I'd never be deceived is on cooking shows. If you flip your channel to the Food Network, you will get a variety of cooking shows to choose and learn from.  And, for the most part, you can pretty much figure out who is promoting unhealthy cooking just by looking at the chefs themselves.

Paula Deen is one of the most famous chefs in America.  She is known for her southern fried chicken and skillet fried apple pie, and everyone just loves her southern charm.  Yet, we know that most of her foods are not healthy with just common sense.  For instance, no one can say that the following cooking video displays anything but a heart attack waiting to happen!  Who in their right minds would ever think of a hamburger topped with eggs and bacon and donuts used for the bun as being healthy?

On the other end of the spectrum, you can find Rocco DiSpirito.  This Italian American chef from New York is known as the world's sexiest chef!  Take a look at how Rocco's 350 calorie burger differs from Paula's.  Served on a healthy Ezekiel bun is an extra lean ground beef burger topped with an egg plant and Greek yogurt mixture, veggies, and a healthy homemade salsa.  While very appealing to the eye, this burger will satisfy your tummy without the added empty calories.

I don't believe you even needed to watch those two videos to see the difference and learn what is healthy or not.  However, while working out on my elliptical yesterday morning, I was shocked as I watched Rachel Ray.  She presented a new type of ice cream with "The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck."  To satisfy the health conscious folks, they have come up with "healthy" ice creams.  Their vanilla is infused with "basalmic syrup" while their chocolate is topped with "toasted curry coconut."   They even have more exotic ice creams infused or topped with wasabi peas, extra virgin olive oil, fig sauce, pomegranate sauce, craisins, or ginger.  You can see their clip on The Rachel Ray Show.

So, can ice cream be made healthy as The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck has presented?  Ladies, please don't be fooled!  Just because a few healthy ingredients are tossed in does not make a food healthy.  Rated as one of the "Top 10 Worst Foods," ice cream has more than a half day's worth of saturated fats (the bad fats), a third of a day's worth of cholesterol, and tons of refined sugar.  All this is wrapped up in just a half cup!  So, be careful when you are watching the cooking shows.

The best way to know what is healthy or not is by learning it yourself.  Don't allow cooking shows fool you into thinking a food is healthy when it is not, especially if you don't want your waist to grow.  It's best to not try to make excuses just to have a little of the naughty stuff.  ;)
