I hope you had a terrific summer as well as the last summer weekend of 2010! Hopefully you'll be getting back into a routine while the kids are in school and don't have too much cleaning up to do. As for me, I have a ton of cleaning to do. Even with spring cleaning back in April, I'm having to start all over again now that the mad rush of teenagers aren't running in and out. It's time to take down the drapes to have dry cleaned as well as call Stanley Steamers to get the grime out of the carpets. That's not all though! It's time for me to get back into the gym on a consistent basis and clean up my diet. What about you? Are you feeling the same?
I don't want to get caught up into being "thin" though. That's just not me! It's truly about balance... in EVERY area of my life including the health and fitness areas. I'm a Personality A type, and it gets the best of me many times. I'm just wired that way. I can also be very hard on myself about weight. If I see a dimple in the back of my thigh or a pooch in my belly, I'm feeling fat. The lack of confidence follows as well. It wasn't until I began working with women that I realized this is a "normal" feeling for the majority. We are all hardwired to critique ourselves about our weight or looks. We all have a fantasy to be the beautiful women we were made to be... the ones who are able to wear skin tight jeans to show off our sexy curves as well as a tight fitting tank to reveal our beautifully toned arms. Who doesn't want to have the appeal of Angelina Jolie? Better yet, what about being that hot momma with someone like Brad Pitt on your arms? Hmmmm... okay, enough with the fantasies!
Let's get real, Ladies! Each one of us is made differently. I may be taller or shorter than you. My hair may be black while yours is blonde or red. You may have a voluptuous bustline while I have a curvy derriere. Besides that, I may think "thin" to be something totally different than what you think it to be. My version of thin is a "healthy" thin that doesn't put my bones or health at risk. I'm motivated by the thought that I can be running marathons or lifting weights in my elderly years. I think of Ernestine Shepherd who knew she needed to lose weight and get her health back when she was in her 50s. She did and is now in her 70s and competing in figure competitions. Best of all, she gained her health back and can do things that most women her age can't do. This is the "healthy" thin I'm talking about. With that being said, the only way anyone can obtain this healthy thin is through a great exercise program and eating a diet rich in nutrients.
So, let your "ideal" look have health in the equation. Though you should care about what you weigh to where you aren't in the overweight or obese category, you should not have to be obsessed to the point where you've lost yourself in the fantasy world of looking just like someone else you admire. Try to focus on building a better body for "you," and you will be highly content with yourself. Focus on toning and beautifying your muscles as that is what will drive your metabolism, help you burn fat, and keep you healthy. When you get on the scale, don't fret so much. Muscle weighs more than fat, but muscles take up less room on your frame and you're still able to wear a size or two smaller. With muscle, you are a tighter and sexier package.
