I am wanting to start doing this but was wondering what the best way to start is.

Preferably low impact as I suffer from arthritis in my knee.

Any help is appreciated.

Hiit is great because it increases your caloric burn long after you stop working out! There are a lot of different hiit workouts you can do... Do you have any equipment or will you be doing this at home with no equipment?

I have a Total Gym and an exercise bike right now but am not averse to buying other pieces if need be as I can afford them.

I can't afford Gym fees so any that is no/low cost is great.

Thanks.

You don't need a gym for hiit! I'll get back to you with some ideas :)

That would be awesome thank you.

I am doing the weight loss thing by myself, no trainers, no nutritionist/dietitions, no gym etc so really need ideas on this one. :)

You can do low impact HIIT on your exercise bike.  Here's a routine you can start with:

  • 3-5 minutes - low-medium intensity warm-up
  • 30 seconds - high intensity
  • 30 seconds - low intensity
  • Do that round for 4-5 rounds. Increase each week until you are doing 10 minutes which would be about 10 rounds.
  • 3-5 minutes - low intensity for cooldown.

After you've reach your 10 rounds, you can change it up by starting with 3-4 rounds of 60 seconds high and 60 seconds low. Increase that until you reach 15 minutes.  Of course, add in the 3-5 minute warmup and cooldown.

I would do HIIT about 2-3 times per week.  You can do steady state cardio at low-medium intensity on other days if you wish. wink
