I love this new pod-cast.  I always feel weird being a geek and a mom at the same time.  (as I type this, my t-shirt says "i-Mom").  I was even called a nerd by my son's pediatrician.  Don't know if I should be proud of that or not.
Anyway, I use my geek-dom to my advantage.  I track my son's sleep online, and I even have a website set up for him, that way I don't have to constantly spend money making copies of photos and sending them to relatives all the time.
I love the pod-cast so far...even though I have only listened to the short first one so far...it seems to be rare that I get to sit in one place for long, and I broke my i-pod, so I can only listen on my computer.  I hope to listen to the other pod-casts (3 I believe?) soon.
Thanks for making something us geeky parents can enjoy!

Hi! Welcome to the group and thanks for listening. Tracking your son's sleep online, what a great idea! Is there a site that you recommend?

Annabella was such a great sleeper, I never needed to track it. I tried to use Excel with the twins, but it seemed like they never slept so that wasn't much use to me.

I totally understand about not being in one place for too long. I don't think I would be able to listen to podcasts if it weren't for my ipod. I listen in the car or on my headphones when I'm cleaning up the house or doing the dishes.

The site is http://trixietracker.com/  I don't use it anymore, since the site told me my son slept a total of 3 hours a day, which depressed me, since I am probably getting less than that...
I wish I could afford to get a new iPod.  Apple makes things so expensive.  I could get a cheaper MP3 player, but I would have to use something other than iTunes, and for me, iTunes is easy, and I am too busy/lazy to figure out another program.
I did get to listen to the first half of the second podcast...I am slowly making my way through the rest of it.  Ugh I am soo behind!
If I can think of any other nifty websites, I will post them here.

I forgot to mention another website that helped me out.
It's freecycle.org.
Generally, it's a website run through Yahoio groups where you post offers of items you don't want and request items too, and you can take items people post.
I have gotten most of my baby toys and clothes there.  It's a great way to save money.  I even saved money from having to go to the dump by getting rid of an opld computer desk.
One box of baby onsies I got through the site was all stained, so i tie-dyed them with a $10 tie-dye kit, and BOOM!  They were better than new and stylish.
Anyway, feel free to check it out.  I love it, and i get all the posting emailed directly to me.  Enjoy!

Thank you so much for the podcasts! We just listened to 3 of them on a roadtrip to CT from VA this past week :)

It was nice to hear you & Leo talking about parenthood & tech along with so many blogs that I already read!

We used to watch y'all on Tech TV & it's great to be able to "catch up" with your new lives.

Thanks so much!

Cheers,

Jennifer

Hi, I'm new to the podcast also but try to listen on my iPod during rare exercise moments (I can't connect my iPod in the car yet).  My three year-old was "checking her email" on her play phone today so I know our family's "connected" culture is being noticed.  Of course, with a father constantly on his Blackberry and a mom that takes her Treo to the pool club, hard not to notice.  I look forward to hearing from others what technology is enhancing their lives versus distracting.  I find most are a little of both.  My Treo means that I can keep my part-time consulting business moving even while on the playground but it also means I have to make an effort to be 100% focused on parenting during my "mommy" time.

So I signed up for a family social networking site today, Cozi.  Has anyone else tried any of these sites? Any recommendations? I'm trying to move away from the communal paper calendar on the garage door for tracking my husband's late meetings and my appointment/Hannah's classes.  It seems useful to synch both of our Outlooks into a family calendar as long as it synchs to my Treo.  When will the tablet/flat screens be ready for family use? I need a touchscreen tablet that I can hang or set in the ktichen with calendaring, WiFi connectivity, address book, recipes, etc.

Hi,

I am really enjoying the new podcast! I discovered it just last week through my favorite podcast, the Manic Mommies and loved it and subscribed in iTunes. I just got a iPod Nano and am so excited to be able to easily listen to all my favorite pocasts now. My husband calls me a Geek Mom, although I wish I were enough of a geek to figure out what I need to be able to listen to my iPod in the car without using the earphones. I know I need to buy something I just don't know what! LOL

I just joined CafeMom too, a few days ago thought I'd join this group while I was listening to the show this week, I'm listening right now. LOL

hello ladies,
I've been listening to the chief TWiT for almost a year now. When I heard him tell he was going to be doing a podcast about parenting I was so thrilled. It's becoming one of my very favorites. Another fave is Buzz Out Loud and I'm taken aback when their message boards are a teeny bit hostile to the one regular who just came back from maternity leave. Like you can't be a mom and a geek at the same time. I know good and well the two can go hand in hand. My girls are very used to seeing me with my iPod on and my oldest even has one of her own now (due to a good report card - she's almost 8) and my 4 year old would have a first generation Shuffle if we could find it LOL.

We don't have smart phones and we're still using a paper calendar but that's just because I'm the geek in the family... but if I had my way, I'd have an iPhone!

Hi Fellow-Geek moms,

Sorry it took me so long to respond. We were on vacation most of July. Glad you're enjoying the podcast!

Take care,

I love the podcast! I listen while I work from home (I'm a designer) and it's great! I'm a really big geek mom (My son has an Apple shirt that I can't wait for him to wear) So I'm thrilled to meet other mommies just like me. Thanks Megan! Gloria
