Salamo alikom

I hate to sound negative; but as a Muslim first and an Arab second ;  it breaks my heart to see all the anger ; waste; hate; destruction; and craziness from those two nations OVER SOCCER.

just to show how going away from Islam ; makes silly things more important;

la hawla wa la Quwwatta illa bilaah.

Wa alaikum salam, Sister.

You are so right about this.  My DH is from Algeria and we've been staying posted on the whole football issue and watching it blown way out of proportion.  It is very sad and discouraging that a relationship between brothers can collapse over silliness.

La hawla wa la quwwatta illa billah...

Hi, my husband is from Egypt and we have the dish network with the arabic channels and we watched beat beatik for 6 hours last night. The news shows in Egypt are on 24-7 right now and this is all they will talk about. Egypt has intense cultural pride. They have 8-12 million visitors every year visiting their historic sites. They are so extremely proud they have one of the highest rates of people who move out of the country coming back out of all countries in the world...and this hurt their national pride. They keep showing the video of the algerians with the knifes outside the stadium in Khartoum say f*** Egypt in arabic while raising their knifes. A lot of Egyptians are so mad they wished Egypt woud bomb Algeria. It is so sad.

This is so silly over soccer. I don't know who started it. Egypt said Algeria destroyed their own soccer bus...and it goes on and on. But it needs to end. It plays into the stereotype that Jews are always saying that all Muslims are mentally ill! It plays into the stereotype that Islamaphobes that we are prone to violence all of us. During the war in Palestine in January it has been reported by some Israeli Soldiers that the rabbis embedded with them were saying that all Palestinians and Muslims are terrorists. That we are all violent. This just plays into that.

We as a people need to come together and not get so mad over silliness. They are pulling their ambassadors out and preventing algerians from going home that is so crazy!!!!!!!

We need to all pray for some peace and reconciliation.

egyptians are actually kind of grateful they lost, because if they won they are saying their would have been murders going on on behalf of the algerians. i watched the games and the reactions. the algerians played dirty on several occassion and what they did on/off the field was just wrong. having said that, egyptians are totally being dramatic and making it out to seem as if the whole stadium and all of egypt were physically hurt by algerians. both are being too driven by their emotions and i hate to say this but they put Islam aside and gave their cultures first priority.

Prophet Muhammad alayhee salaam was for exercise, meaning sports is a great thing to get into and a leisure game to watch is permissible. but this game ppl have gone too far and really need to ground themselves. even those generally non-emotional types of ppl are overly emotional, and on both ends. poor sudanese too who got caught in the middle.

may this be a lesson for each of us, and a reminder to teach our sons- and daughters..that really 'its only a game' mentality..not life, not religion.

THIS...

this is what I was going to post about after I read the post. and after reading about the horrible and disgraceful actions of both nations. this is going back to Jahiliyyah ( days of ignorance) and Asabiyyah ( prejudice and pride in your race or tribe) .. which were supposed to be abolished under Islam. .. like sister Muslimah said, we are Muslim first.

One good thing should come out of it. Moms planning to make a change in the mentality of our children and their children and their children's children.. this is a game, a sport , a pass time. NOT a reason for hate, not a reason for attacking each other and acting in an un-Islamic manner.

how sad. the more I read about this. the more I realize how some people rather   look at things up the wrong end.  while ignoring more fundamental and important things in their lives that are staring them in the face..

La hawla Wa laa Quwwata Illa billaah.

may Allah guide our Ummah, Ameen.

Love and salaam (peace)

As salamu alaikum,

I must be living in a cave cause i had no idea what was going on. actually i've been spending (wasting) time defending islam to the isamicphobes.  i wanted to say.. that  the prophet, sallalahu alayhi wa salam said there will come a time when each day is worse the the day which preceeded it. And he also spoke about how the nations would feed on the muslims like a feast due partly to disunity and love of worldly things, Muslims need to get it together at the individual level so that they can work on the community level.

May Allah guide all muslims back to His religion. ameen

Egypt is doing this to encourage FiFa so that they can redo the game. While watching beat beatik last night they put up FIFA's website and encouraged us to complain and ask for a new game!

Its a press campaign to try to have another chance in the world cup.

This is what I figured out last night. Part of their pride being hurt may be that they lost.

And I watched the games to and Algeria did play very dirty in the second match.

Why would there be a re-match?  Is that supposed to stop the animousity and anger that has erupted over this game?  According to the sister that posted above, Egypt didn't really want to win. There was an appeal to FIFA, but that was on Ireland's behalf because of a player touching the ball with his hand on France's side (sorry, I am a football enthusiast).

Anyway, I really don't think we should be re-hashing this issue; it just adds to the media frenzy that tries to get people worked-up.

I'm done with this topic, but I will say one final thing...

Why are they burning the Algerian flag, when the Israeli flag flies fully unfurled and unbothered in Egypt?  Why are there threats of bombs, when there was nothing done on behalf of the people of Gaza just a few months ago?

and there is the rub..

This is what I mean by  messed up priorities. by seeing things up the wrong end.  if they showed an atom of that compassion to the people being annihilated in Ghaza.. things would have been some what different.  La hawla wa la quwwata illah blilaah.

I hate to say it but Money buys loyalty.. in this case Egypt gets 3 billion dollars from America yearly. some of it is in cash money  to do what they want with it.  The number is  far greater than 50 billion since the late 70's ... Is that enough reason not to burn an isreli flag and close the borders to needy palestiians?  apparently for Egypt it is. What  kind of money has algeria given egypt?
