I really need some advice on what my husband can do, he has extremely high blood pressure and REALLY needs to see a doctor !!!! The problem is that he isnt legal, doesn't have citizenship and under circumstances has no way of getting it or going back to his country.. What can he do I am so worried about him, Please sisters help me ..

There are so called "walk in clinics" you can google one in your area and usually (here in CA at least) the cost is a flat 20$ fee to see a doctor no questions asked. They usually function as urgent clinics too so they have very flexible hours and work on weekends too. You can also google it as Free walk in clinic or Free urgent clinic and you will find either free or very low cost services. You can go to any family physician too but the average cost of a Dr. visit is about 100$ with no insurance at just any practice, that's why a low cost clinic might be your best option if you are on a tight budget.

have you tried talking to one of the Muslim doctors in your community? sometimes they are the best to deal with; inshallah; in the meantime; lay off salt; encourage him to walk everyday; and search online for ideas about high blood pressure diet restrictions

In general, emergency rooms HAVE to treat him, no matter what. Its a crappy way to get basic medical attention, but it is a good last-ditch option.

Just to clarify if he has extreemely high blood pressure as you stated in the original post he NEEDS medication not lifestyle changes. Salt restriction, reducing caffene and excercise is good but it cannot be used alone if his pressure is very high. Typically we consider prehypertension patients with 120-139/80-90 and this group can use lifestyle change alone to treat the condition. However once the blood pressure is above 140/90 serious damage to the system is already starting and he needs medical treatment in addition to lifestyle change. Physicans cannot report anyone to immigration even if you flat out tell them he is illegal (although you can just say he has no insurance) and if they do they can lose their medical license (which trust me they do care about... as some of the sisters know I am in medical school and just starting to take my board exams for the medical licence... it's a real pain to get it and takes a nice 8-10 years post high school, I don't think any MD is trying to lose it!) So as I mentioned before you can go to see ANY doctor but if the issue is cost then I suggest you try low cost/Free clinics.
