Hypoglycemic Fasting

I have low blood sugar. I am having a hard time this Ramadan. (This is my 6th fasting I am a white convert-I missed one when 9 months pregnant so it should be 7).

Anyhow my blood sugar is low 99 after breakfast for example.

Anyhow I have made it through ok these past years. But this year is really hard. I am dizzy and weak and can barely drive or get anything done.

For example the alarm did not got off this morning (2nd time ever during 7 years of Ramadan) and I missed suhoor so I am crazy weak and dizzy and have 7 and 1/2 hours to go.

There has been a lot of times I have had to just sleep (even though not tired) so as to avoid passing out.

I love fasting. I look forward all year for Ramadan. But when does it become a haram to fast?

Is there anything I can do so that I can still fast because I am worried it will get worse now that I am getting older?

If you carry a clinical diagnosis of type I diabetes you should not fast as it may be life threatening. If you are type II it depends on how controlled you are and your sugar levels. Please check with your doctor. I know we all look forward to fasting in ramadan but if you can't fast for medical reasons you can feed fasting people and get your reward that way.

if you need to break your fast, Pay kafarrah & set more than one alarm next time. ;)

Salam Alikom Sister. I am a diabetic and I am not able to fast due to it as well as because I am breastfeeding. Allah swt knows the intentions in our hearts and excuses those who have medical conditions from fasting when fasting would worsen their condition. There is no shame in it. Allah swt is merciful and understanding.

Both my father and husband are Type 2 diabetes. Alhamdu'lillah they are both fasting, even though my husband is finding it hard this year. But if was to get too hard they don't have to fast and they have to pay Kafarrah. But to tell u the truth I can't see them doing that. There's sumthing special about Ramadan and it's very hard to eat even when ur Ill. But u have to eat if it's detrimental to ur health otherwise ur going against the teachings of islam.

i don't think that she is saying she has diabetes, but she is hypoglycemic.  Without food the blood sugar dips to dangerous levels.  I too am hypoglycemic.  I get very sick when my blood sugar gets to low without food.  i recently passed out at work.  I am unable to fast for Ramadan as it is too dangerous for especiallya s a single mother.  I can never put my daughter in danger is were to pass out while I was alone wit her.  I have chosen instead to pay kafarrah. I wish I could fast :(
