Anyone else go TV free?
We are moving soon inshaAllah. And down sizing, so we are selling a few things. One thing I want to sell is the TV!
Especially with the new baby coming, I don't want to fall in to the trap of letting DD watch TV more just to give me a break!

I have done a test run, we haven't even turned it on for days and I am happy with the improvement so far! The entire house seems different. We are all more focused on eachother rather than the TV!

Thinking of doing the same thing. I have been keeping it off except for the news occasionally. It does make a difference in the vibe of the house subhanallah. We are also downsizing/ moving... We just need to take the final step and sell it inshallah. I don't think it will be missed.

I just don't know if I could handle the lack of nat geo and history channel lol. That's for the most part all we watch. If I could have a cable package that just included educational programming I'd totally get it.

My husband and I have never had a tv in our home and it's going on 9 years.  We rent movies for the kids and download shows that we have checked out to be free of harams. We use the Internet too.  It's allowed us to pick and choose what we want to watch.  When I was growing up the tv was always going on in the background and I think it was a bit of a distraction and did take away from times we could have been conversing with one another.

I mainly watch Little House on the Prairie (love that show), Science Channel, HGTV, Travel Channel, Discovery, Military, History, H2, Animal Planet, DHFC, Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild.   Pokemon I have a website with all 14 seasons (so far) on my computer, a ton of children DVDs/my TV show/Islamic Documentaries, and Netflix does not have everything instant streaming.  Besides I need a TV to play my PS2, Nintendo 64 and PS3 and watch my DVDs.  My husband LOVES the Science Channel.  Plus we also use the TV for the local news station to see if school is closed during winter and to get information on local news.  Also with DirectTV, it's the only way I can watch Al Jazeera on LINK TV.  Sometimes I will watch documentaries that interest me on the Doc Channel and I enjoy watching Deadly Women on ID Channel.  I like all the crime stuff (Law and Order Franchise, Forensic Science, First 48 hours, Deadly Women).  And I need the DHFC Channel for my youngest brother-in-law who is in school to be a paramedic and my husband's doctor nephew (if we are lucky) as well as for me watching Deliver Me, Birth Day, Adoption Stories, Mystery ER, Mystery Diagnosis, I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant, Trauma Life in The ER, Untold Stories of the ER.  Also for soccer matches/for me to watch my football team in the FIFA.  No way I'll give up TV.  I learn a lot of interesting stuff which I tell Dh about by watching the above channels.  I would never have known of Vanishing Twin Syndrome if not for DHFC.  Also Dh knows I'd throw a fit if I didn't get to watch my astronomy shows (The Universe, Inside the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman).  Used to watch the Food Channel but not so much anymore.  Really we only watch HGTV for House Hunters and House Hunters International (gives me a chance to see different countries when House Hunters International is on).

I know.  If there was a TV package that had Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild, Animal Planet, DHFC, History, H2, Science Channel, Discovery Channel, Travel Channel, HGTV, Food Channel,  Military, Islamic channels (which sadly we do not get), MLS channels, and maybe Starz Movie Package I'd pay for that and be peachy.  The above channels are the only ones I care about and like.

We actually get an Arabic channel but honestly it seems kinda dirty a lot of the time. We have been watching a ton of DIY network. We leaned how to fix a fence and install a toilet lol. Both were skills we actually needed.
