assalamu alaikum,
in this thread , let us concentrate on Islamic historic figures, ie. companions, great men,. Sahaba, Salaf, great women, ...etc. people that made a difference and achieved greatness for and through Islam. or just those who impacted our faith. they can be good people or bad people.. in other words:you can list the names of both Heroes & villains, in our glorious history,

let's start with A

A: is for Aminah bintu Wahab. ( good people  ) the mother of Prophet Muhammad. she died while he was still a child.

or we can say A= Abraha Alashram.( villain  ) the man that built a huge church and commanded people to go on pilgrimage to it instead of Ka'aba. and then decided to destroy the Ka'ba. gathered an army of thousands, and braught elephants to charge at the Ka'ba.

do we all know the story?

Abdull Muttalib, prophet Muhammad's grandfather was the leader of the Quraishi tribe, he was wise enough to know that they will not be able to defeat that army, so he went to Abraha and asked him that his army not destroy the houses of the people in Mekka. so Abraha asks, you know I come here to destroy your house of worship and you worry about the other houses? so he answers, I am the lord of those houses and I need to protect them. the Ka'ba has its own lord to protect it.

and rightfully so, miraculously , the elephants would not budge, they would sit unless pointed in the other direction. then came the birds with the fiery stones, and the entire army was annihilated.
that was the Year of the elephant. they year when Prophet Muhammad was born. and the surah  entitled : the Elephant, commemorates that story ( No.105)

now you go, Heroes or villains

SALAMO ALIKOM.

SO THIS IS JUST SUPPOSED TO BE NAMES OF PEOPLE THAT INFLUENCED OUR HISTORY?
I LIKE THAT.

B: BILAL IBNU RABAAH. he was tortured by his owner in Mecca when he became Muslim. They placed a huge rock on his belly and left him naked under the hot son . and all he said was " Allah is one, Allah is one"

He then became the Mua'thin ( one who calls for prayer) after Hijra

He is one of the heroes of our history

D = Dhirar ibnu Al-azwar, During the Khaliphate of Abu Bakr ( may Allah be pleased with him) Dhirar faught with Khalid bin alwaleed. he was lovingly called" the bare warrior" because he used to take off his armour and his shirt during battle in hopes for Shahaada

when he was captured, his sister Khawla bintu alazwar, joined Khalid's army and faught with the men. so bravely. Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) noticed this Lone warrior fighting so bravely , but could not recognize him (her) so he called for him(her) and asked him to introduce himself. she showed her face and told him who she was. he was very impressed and allowed her to fight with the army to free her brother from his capture, and so she did. and her brother was rescued .

so , Dhirar is a hero, with a brave sister who is also a Heroine. fighting under the command of one of the bravest, smartest, and most famouse leaders and warriors in islam (Khalid bin alwaleed)

ok, I realize that E is a very difficult letter, especially that it is non-existent in Arabic. so we can choose the closest sound to it,

Ekrimah ( Ikrimah) ibnu abi jahl
he was an important early Muslim leader and companion of the Holy Prophet... The son of Abu Jahl, Ikrimah was at first one of the chief Meccan opponents to prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him. However, after the conquest of Mecca in 630, he embraced Islam and became an important civil and military leader in the early Islamic state. Abu Bakr ( may Allah be pleased with him) sent Ikrimah against Musaylimah, the Liar, in Yamamah. Ikrimah was the husband of Umm Hakim. He died as a martyr at the battle of Yarmuk during the conquest of Syria.

F=Fatimah Azzahra' ( may Allah be pleased with her)
Prophet Muhammad's Daughter, she was lovingly called "her father's mother" because she always cared for him and because she was the one person that most resembled him. she looked a lot like her father and she acted a lot like him too.
some say she was called azzahra' because she was beautiful and had a very fair complexion. some say she was called like that because of the glow that would come from her face from all her worship and dedication to Allah.
she is one of the very few women that were told to be PERFECT in our history , and she was the first of the prophet's family to die after him and follow him in Janna ( heaven)
as he lay on his death bed, he drew her near. and whispered in her ear, so she cried.. then he called her back again and whispered something else, so she laughed. after his death peace be upon him, Ayesha asked Fatimah about that, and she replied: when he first spoke with me, he told me he feels his time is near and that he will go to the side of Allah, so I cried. then he told me that I will be the first one from his family to follow him, so I laughed.."  Cry
what strength, what dedication. masha' Allah

one of the greatest women in our history, the daughter of our beloved prophet and khadeejah....the mother of al-Hasan and al-Hussein.. the wife of Ali ibnu abi talib.. .

a wonderful example to learn from.

G=Gabriel ( Jibreel) the greatest of all the angels, and Allah's messenger to his prophets, He is the Holy Ghost.. peace be upon him
He was described by prophet Muhammad peace be upon him to be great and beautiful, he has six hundred wings, each wing filled up the horizon , and each has pearls and rubies hanging down .. the Prophet Peace be upon him saw Jibreel in his true form twice, once when he first came to him in the cave of Hirah and delivered the first verses of the Quran, and once at the " sidrat al-montahaa" during the night journey and ascention to the heavens,.

He used to teach the Prophet peace be upon him, and recite Quran with him .. He used to Pray ( make Salat ) in congregation with the prophet. he used to visit him in human form to teach him about islam and deliver to him Allah's commands and revelations.

Peace be upon Gabriel.. the holey spirit that told Mary of her miraculous baby Jesus ( peace be upon both of them)
Peace be upon Jibreel that gave the black stone to prophet Ibaraheem as he was done building the Ka'aba..

peace be upon him, may we be granted the honor of meeting him in the hereafter. Ameen

assalamu alaikum ladies,

H... has both a glorious name and an infamous name( before her Islam) and both characters are linked in one story. so I will use the H for both

H= Hamza ibnu Abdil- Muttalib.... and Hind binto Utbah. .

Hamza was prophet Muhammad's uncle, they were close in Age, so they were friends and brothers as well. He was called Asadu Allah ( the lion serving Allah) and sayyidu Ashuhada' (the greatest of the martyrs)

when prophet Muhammad started calling people to Islam in Mecca he became the target of a lot of abuse. one day, Hamza, was coming back from hunting, and a servant came to him to tell him that abu jahl was insulting and assaulting his nephew by the Ka'ba.. so he marches there with all his might, and strikes abu-jahl with his bow , and without thinking announces that he is Muslim too.. ( but he wasn't ) his announcement dumbfounded Quraish. then he left. as he was alone, he started struggling with his outburst. why did he say it? can he really leave the faith of his fathers.. so after long deliberation, and asking God for guidance, he went to his nephew and embraced islam. after long thought ,not just an impulse of anger.
he became a great Muslim and a great supporter of the Prophet Peace be upon him.
in the battle of Badr, he was unstoppable, and killed so many of the Quraish leaders. including the father, brother and husband of Hind binto Utbah.
so when the battle of Uhud came,. Hind told Wahshi ( a slave) that she would give him freedom and jewelry if he brings her Hamza's liver. . so during the battle of Uhud. he just watched for Hamza. he said that Hamza was so brave and relentless.... until he was close to him and he threw a spear at him that went through his body and killed him on the spot. then he left the battle field until fighting died down , took out Hamza's liver and gave it to Hind. she chewed on it. but it was too bitter for her and she spit it out...

as the Muslims were collecting their casualties and the dead.. they could hardly recognize Hamza's body because it was mutilated and cut open. his face was mutilated... so the Prophet peace be upon him cried that day as he was never seen before or after... and he yelled that he would take revenge and mutilate thirty men from Quraish during the next battle. it was then that Jibreel ( Gabriel) came to him with these verses from the Quran in Surat al-nahl 16: 125-127

bismilllahi arrahmaan arrahim:

"and if ye punish, let your punishment be proportionate to the wrong that has been done to you: but if ye show patience, that is indeed the best (course) for those who are patient. * And do though be patient, for thy patience is but with the help from Allah; nor grieve over them: and distress not thyself because of their plots * For Allah is with those who restrain themselves and those who do good.sadaqa Allahu al- atheem ( and Allah speaks it truth) .

what an honor ..
then prophet Muhammad prayed Janaza on his uncle, then brought each of the muslim martyrs that died that day and prayed janazah on each of them, along with Hamza.. so he prayed janaza for Hamza seventy times. may Allah have mercy on his soul.

when he got back to medina. women were crying for their loved ones. but Hamza had no family. so the prophet said quietly, out of sadness and tenderness.. " but Hamza has no one to cry for him " .. Sa'd ibnu Mu'ath heard him , so he went to the women of bani al- Ash-hal and told them that , so they went to Hamza's house to cry for him ( what dedication) but the prophet said: I did not intend that, go back may Allah have mercy on all of you and bless you, there will be no more crying"
May Allah have mercy on the soul of the Lion, and the master of the martyr's, Hamza ibnu abdil muttlib. Prophet Muhammad's beloved uncle

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

after the conquest of Mecca, Hind became Muslim. and she became a good righteous Muslimah.. even if her name stayed in infamy before her Islam as Hind the liver eater..

Wahshi also embraced Islam. but he was never able to show his face to prophet Muhammad. however, he used the same spear to kill Musailama the liar.. and he said, "just as I had killed the best of people with this harpoon, I also killed the worst of them , and I hope that will redeem my sin and may Allah forgive me."

so there you have it. Wink

Two of the MOST influential people in Islam, as a faith and impact on the worships and the practice.. the father of all the prophets, the father of Prophet Muhammad, whom he resembled most .. the one who built the Ka'ba and was the first to be named muslim.. it is prophet Ibraheem, and his son Ismail (isma'eel)

so ,I = Ibraheem & Isma'eel..
there is no way I can relate to you the entire story of prophet Ibraheem.. it is so rich and beautiful that I urge all of you to read up on. .. his struggles as a young man to find God, destroying the idols, and then being thrown in the fire, Allah commands that fire to be cold and peaceful, so he doesn't burn. ...... his marriage to Sarrah, the second most beautiful woman ever created on this earth.. second only to Eve. .. His travels and hardships, his marriage to Haajar, who gave birth to Isma'eel,. and then having been ordered by Allah to leave his wife and child in the middle of the desert.. and they all complied.. what dedication to Allah, what surrender..
a lot of the rituals and rites pilgrims do during Haj. are related to the family of Ibraheem.. like the celebration of Hajar's journey while looking for water ( between Safa and Marwa)
it is for Isma'eel that zamzam came out.
it is Ibraheem and Isma'eel that built the Holy Ka'ba.. and it is in celebration of prophet Ibraheem's willingness to sacrifice his son, that muslims sacrifice a lamb every year on the holiday of Eid al- adha after pilgrimage, and give its meat to the poor and family...

when Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him ascended to the skies during the Isra' and Mi'raaj, he saw prophet Ibraheem sitting against the wall of "al-bait al-ma'moor" the greatest Ka'ba in the seventh heaven where angels go for pilgrimage, and he was told "this is your father Ibraheem" and prophet Muhammad said that they resembled eachother so.

even though Prophet Ibraheem and prophet Isma'eel lived long before Prophet Muhammad peace be upon All of them. but the impace they had on Islam is tremendous.. two definite heroes..
please do take the time to learn their stories..

I leave you in Allah's care
Salam Wink

Wow, mashallah Proud you really work too hard.

J= Ja'far ibnu abi talib( Ja'far attayyaar.. the flying or soaring Jafaar)
he was Prophet Muhammad's cosine. and he was very dear to him.
he was among the people that first migrated to Habasha, and convinced its ruler with their cause to leave Muslim practice their faith freely.
he died as a martyr in the battle of Mu'ta. he was holding the Muslim's flag. and the Mushrekeen of Rome wanted to make it fall so that the Muslim army would surrender. so they attacked Ja'far ( radyia Allahu 'anh) and cut one of his arms,. so he held it with the other . so they attack again and cut teh other one. so he hugs it with his stumps. then they attack him again and kill him.
at the moment of his death. Jibreel told prophet Muhammad in Madina, so the Prophet peace be upon him announced his shahaada and told the followers around him that Ja'far will be flying in heaven with wings instead of his arms..
may Allah have mercy on his soul...

is this good Proud, or do I need to add anything.?

K=KHADIJA

She is the benefactor and patron of Islam, as lady Khadija (Wife of Holy Prophet [saw]).

She is a partner of prophethood, as lady Fatima (Daughter of Holy Prophet [saw]).

She is one of the greatest leaders, as lady Zainab (Daughter of Imam Ali [as])

Khadija bint Khuwaylid, the wife of the Prophet, is truly known as a noble lady; she was, in the modern terminology, the First Lady of Islam.

During the Meccan phase of Islam's movement, Khadija was the main pillar of support for Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). She was the first one to declare her faith in Islam. Her declaration of faith was a great testimony of the Prophet's character: a wife knows her husband's outer as well as inner character. By being the first to accept person to accept Islam, Khadija demonstrated that she believed in the truthfulness of Muhammad as the Messenger of God.

The initial years of Islam's mission were very trying; the Prophet faced severe opposition from the people of Mecca. In face of this rejection, Khadija provided the moral support and boasted the morale of the Prophet. According to Muslims historians, he even used to consult and discuss with her the issues related to the Islamic movement.

Khadija whole-heartedly supported the Prophet's cause by placing her wealth at his disposal. Almighty God has praised that by addressing the Prophet: "Did We not find you in need and made your free of need?" (93:8) It was through Khadija's wealth that the Almighty made the Prophet self-sufficient in his financial needs.

Although Khadija came from a very affluent background, she did not shy from sacrificing her wealth for the cause of Islam. Not only that, she even willingly went through the difficulties of three years of social/economic embargo imposed upon Prophet Muhammad and his family, the Banu Hashim. The hardship of these three years eventually resulted in her death.

It is to her credit that the Prophet of Islam did not marry another woman as long as Khadija was alive; she was the only wife who bore children for him. The name of Prophet continued through Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet and Khadija.

please correct me if I am wrong
