the hidden dangers of chain emails and forwards s. + books and authors to stay away from.
assalamu alaikum sisters,
Once again. one of our wonderful sisters on here. inspires a very important topic of discussion. jazaakillahu khairan sister eleanormuhanna - imagine how much blessing you get for every sister that learns something good about her faith because of your post
)
This thread. will be dedicated to the chain letters and false emails that circulate the net. spreading lies, inconsistencies, fabricated hadiths, fabricated verses of the Quran , innovations or misinformation. we will insha' Allah help each other in identifying those mistakes. and insha' Allah learning together to always always always double check and make sure that whatever is in that email is true to Quran and Sunnah before we click the forward button.
throughout the years, there had been a lot of emails going around. some about 911 and the false verses of the Quran. some about hijab. some with false Ahadith to name only three. the list goes on and on and on.... and the one thing in common between all those is the last remark. of " forward this to every one ( or Muslim) you know.
among the worse types of emails are those that contain Dua's and then they tell you to forward them to fifty people so you can get a lot of benefit and if you don't then you will get a lot of misfortune.. subhaana Allah. how misguided can some people get?
in short, in this thread insha' Allah we will attempt to handle , discuss, and expose, such emails. and insha' Allah there will be benefit to all.
please sisters, remember to always always make sure that what you are getting is true. ask your sources or whoever sends you such emails to provide you with proof, hadith number, verse Number, or chain of narration of the hadith. ..etc. being ignorant is not an excuse. because you have a choice whether to click that forward button or not. so when in doubt.. DO NOT Forward. .
May Allah guide us all to what pleases him . May he forgive our mistakes, and not hold us accountable for that which we don't know. or have no control over. May He have mercy on all of us and guide us to the straight path.. Ameen.

The second Email . led us to another important topic about books that we should avoid, and so , in an effort to try and not have the first page of our forum crowded with sticky posts, we will add them to this one insha' Allah. Please remember sisters that this is NOT an open invitaion to gossip about nor backbite scholars. if you see something false, or goes against Islam. is is misleading to Muslims, then please post. if you do not agree with the interpretation of a credible scholar. please do not make this about back biting them.
1~ the first author to stay away from is KAREN ARMSTRONG.- and her book on the life of our prophet peace be upon him

I get these emails all the time from my family who is non muslim but at the top they ask me to check with my FIL and correct any mistakes that the email states so that way they know the truth instead of the lies that most of them contain. I learn alot from those emails the lies and misconseptions(sp) that someone has put in an email and then the few true facts that they throw in to make you think it is all true. If I come across something that I don't know about I always go ask my FIL if he isn't busy he has always been willing to answer my many questions. We can talk about Islam for a couple hours at time with just one question from me. If he isn't I know I can ask my husband who is not as knowlgeable(sp) as my FIL or I can come here ask you sisters. Thank you for teaching me and letting me share my experinses(sp) with these kinds of emails.
assalamu alaikum sister,
how wonderful masha' Allah . you are absolutely correct. they do put some true things in there to sound credible, and then throw in misguidance. or simply they don't know truth from misguidance and just go about spreading all they hear.
I think what you are doing is great, and the correct thing to do. masha' Allah. lf you allow me to add just a little thought in. don't just depend on your father in law or husband. or us on here. you can grab the Quran or books of hadith and make sure for yourself as well. insha' Allah.
great to hear from you, as always
I leave you in the trusted care of Allah.

I would like to warn everyone of a book that I purchased a few years ago that everyone should be made aware of. I had only been Muslim several months and was looking for reading material about Muslim women in particular. I was at Borders book store and saw the following title next to a Quran:
Daughters of Islam: Building Bridges with Muslim Women
By: Miriam Adeney.
Based on the title of this book, I thought it was about Muslim women and how we can work with Christian women while accepting our differences. THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT! This book is written by Christian women who go in great detail how to exploit hardships of Muslim women in such a way that you can convert them to Christianity. It even lists hardships to look for by country and ethnicity. They share several conversion stories in which they introduce the reader to three former Muslim women and show how they convinced them to leave Islam. I was absolutely shocked at what I was reading. I must admit that I did not finish the book because I felt the material did not deserve to even be read so my feelings are based on the first several chapters alone however, I feel that what I read was enough to add the book to our list. My heart still aches for the women they have targeted, which are usally extremly impoverished, widows or those who have suffered from domestic violence.
