Ok so i know this is a cake group and my question is on cookies but i thought you girls might be able to help me out. I made some sugar cookies with my son today for V-day. they tasted good but i cannot seem to get my cookies to keep their shape while/after baking(* i have tried rolling the dough many different thicknesses) any suggestions? maybe i need a new recipe.( i found the one i am using online and while it tastes very good i would just like my cookies to look like the shape that they are suppose to( cutting them with shaped cookie cutters) oh by the way here is the recipe i used(Maybe it needs some changes IDK):

2 cups of granulated sugar

1 cup butter

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp vanilla

2 eggs

2 2/3 cup all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

3/4 tsp baking soda

When I make them I use:

1 cup gran. sugar

1 cup butter

1 tsp vanilla

Blend those til smooth, Add:

1 egg

Let egg fully incorporate, while  in separate bowl:

3 cups A.P. Flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

Slowly add flour mixture to other ingredients.

This recipe is very tasty and holds it's shape very well! It's very shortbread like, and tastes a little buttery. Hope that helps!

Try chiling your cut outs prior to baking them.
