i am making two mothers' day cakes and would love to put something besides icing between the layers.  both cakes are round 2 layer cakes.  any ideas?   i've never done this before so is there a "trick" to it or how exactly do you do this.

thanks so much

I found a recipe tha tis strawberry creamcheese filling and the trick is to add gelatin to the mixture so it is firm and after you put down the bottom cake take thick buttercream icing and make a bridge and fill in the filling and place the other on top.

I think I got this recipe off www.cakecentral.com It is called creamy and firm strawberry cream cheese filling.

Take a look!  This is what I am doing tomorrow!!!

to put the filling in the middle you put like a thick circle around the border like 1/4inch inside the border of the cake.  put the filling in the middle and put the other piece of cake on top.  (let me know if you are confused.)  If you just throw filling between when you go to put the icing on the cake the filling will spill out and you'll have filling on the outside!
