Hi, my name is Jen. I'm 34 and live in NJ with my husband, Dave, and three children, Emma (12), Wyatt (9), and Sofia (almost 1). After working out of my home full-time, I recently started working full-time from home managing copyediting for a manuscript development house.

I feel like I finally have my dream job--getting to be here with my kids, while continuig to do the job I love. I started this group to meet other moms to share the joys and unique challenges of juggling being a working mom AND a stay-at-home mom at the same time. Plus, we miss out on all the office gossip in the break room, so any and all topics of discussion are welcome! (Well, except for classifieds offering work-from-home opportunities, advertising for jobs, or selling merchandise. There are lots of other groups on Cafemom for those opportunities.)

welcome

Jen

  • Well, not that I need to tell Jen who I am, I will for the others.  My name is Beth and I am a VERY small business owner that gets to be home with my daughter.  After 20 years in various places of the automotive industry, I decided to start a marketing/consulting business for car dealers.  I only have a few clients because I got pregnant quickly after starting it up.  I have to travel in order to get more clients and with my husband's job that just isn't feasible with Kinsey being so young.  I love what I do and hope to get more clients after we move back to Virginia where I have a lot more contacts.

  • Hi Jen, hi Beth!  I'm Kari, 30-yr-old mom of 11-month-old Liam.  :-)  I've been working at home for about 5 years or so, as an editor (I do most of my editing online).  So I was a "WAH" long before I was an "M"!  haha.  I'm really glad I get to be home with Liam, I know I wouldn't do well having to send him to daycare or something...I'd constantly be worried about him!  It is hard though, in terms of having two jobs at once, as I'm sure you both know.  I'm just glad he's not teething right now!!  haha.

I do have a babysitter who comes in the mornings...she and Liam hang out and play downstairs, while I work upstairs.  I take breaks to nurse him and to see how he's doing when he fusses...but he loves the sitter and is generally extremely happy to play with her.  :-)

Hmm well I don't really have anything to gossip about right now...except to say Yay Obama!  Very exciting day!

  • Glad to have you both here! Even the day after, I'm STILL glued to the TV coverage. I was tearing up all day. However, Republicans are welcome in the group, too! kiss mini

Damn, I hope so....I would hate to have to leave.  LOL

Having said I am a republican, I just want to clear up that I am not bitter about the election.  I really like Obama, he is just a little too left sometimes.  It was actually a tough decision because I am more middle of the road.  I am a republican in fiscal policy decisions but more of a democrat in social issues.  Either way though, I don't go to the extremes.

I hear you on that. I'm a little hesitant about all these bailouts going on. I mean, I get it. Because if any more banks fail, the ENTIRE economy will collapse because businesses can't get loans to stay in business, and people will lose more jobs, etc. I think they're going too far with bailing out the automotive industry, though. Granted, I know (tens of) thousands more will lose jobs if factories close--and a lot of those factories are in areas where there really aren't other job alternatives. So, ok, I can agree with that with some level of reservation. But then my concern is where does it end? But on the social issue stance, I'm very liberal, and very much believe in "separation of church and state." But, maybe this should be a separate thread than the "Welcome" post--I don't want to scare any conservatives away! My liberal stance is one of inclusion, lol, so ALL are welcome!

  • Hiya, I'm Melissa! I'm 28 and have been working from home for about 6 years now. I mainly do data entry with some light customer service. I have one son who is almost 5 years old. His name is Trent (pictures on my profile) He's so smart and so very much like his daddy. I work anywhere from 4-6 hours a day with Monday off and I go to school (online) full time. I'm currently taking my last three classes towards my associates degree. I'm debating on going further for my bachelors.

Trent is soon to be in Kindergarten so I'll have more time to work and study but for now this is good. He is a handful but he is MY handful :) I cannot imagine leaving him with someone else so I can go to work. It kills me when he stays overnight at his grandpa's!

I'm usually up at 6am and don't go to bed til maybe midnight (most nights) I do try and squeeze in a nap but Trent is almost too old for those!

I love to read, watch movies, and some tv shows. I've become a MAJOR Lost fan recently! I live Buffy, Legend of the Seeker (have a group on here for it) Moonlight, Ghost Hunters, Fringe, Firefly, and pretty much anything on the History channel. I play World of Warcraft pretty casually...hmm that seems to be it for now. :)

  • Hi, I'm Shauna, 36, in a suburb of Boston.  My daughter Norah, is almost 11 months.

I don't technically work at home, but my boss and the rest of my team is in Chicago, so I technically work wherever it is I can get things done!  I have an office, in the same town I live in, which I go to when it suits me (it does today!)

I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule, which is great, because it allows me to attend to DD when I need to, but the down side is that the lines between home time and work time sometimes get blurred.  Keeping that balance is one of my biggest challenges.

DD does go to daycare, so I am not usually trying to tend to her while I work, but I do understand the feeling of isolation, and missing the water cooler chat... even when I do come to the office, I don't actually work with anyone here.

I don't know if you guys have seen this, but it's hilarious, and I am sure you will relate to the current comic, as well as many of the previous ones (I just came accross this yesterday and passed it onto some other working mom friends)

  • Greetings!  My name is Kristin Grayner and I live in beautiful Parker, CO with my husband Rex and our 3 year old son Reed.  I have the pleasure of being a stay-at-home Mom and thank my lucky stars every day for this freedom to be with my son!

I decided to follow in my parents footsteps and 2 years ago launched my home based business as a Shaklee Distributor.  I'm actually a third generation distributor, I'm doing something my Grandmother started in the early 60's and that my parents are still doing after 43 years.  You could say that it was written in the stars for me.  I enjoy helping others improve their health and their home environment.

I look forward to getting know everyone in the group!

    Hugs,
    Kristin

  • Welcome, Shauna! I don't see your hilarious link. :-) SO many jobs are offering flex-time now, which is part of the reason why I figured there's be a good niche for this group.
