My name is Melissa. My son is 3 yrs old & basically non-verbal (uses a few pecs on occasion, has some baby sign language & some word approximations), but him *wanting* to communicate is still a struggle (he was evaluated at 15 mo & dx at 21 mos). He's in special ed preschool. I'm waiting to find out what school/what type of class he'll be assigned to for next year....(he was in an "overflow" class this year, because of his January birthday).

Hello. My name is Ashley. My son's name is Alex and he is 5 years old. He has PDD-NOS. He was dx'ed about two and a half years ago. This next school year he will be going between a special ed room, the kindergarten room and his old developmental pre-k. We are trying to slowly intigrate him into the regular school population. He will have an aid with him when he is not in the special ed room of the preschool room. It's been a touch and go kind of journey for us because there are no support groups in my area. And not all the therapies that work for Autism help or are tolerated by Alex. I look forward to getting to know all you ladies.

Hi my son was 6 when he was dx with Aspergers/ Autism.  He is 10 now.

I have to make a big decision to keep him in PS or homeschool him.

My name is Rita aka MamaRita, my 11 year old Grandson has Autism, I have been on cafe mom over 3 years now. I am a huge autism supporter or for any special needs. I have many great friends here now, even though I have never met in person, I know for a fact, I can pick up that phone or send a msg, they are always there for me. What a wonderful way for all of us dealing with ASD to connect, support & learn.

Hi, my name is Andi and I have a little boy named, Owen who is three years old, he will be four in August.  Owen was diagnosed with having severe autism this last year, although we have known that he has had autism for quite sometime...he is in a special preschool 4 times a week, and is on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet as he has a lot of digestive problems we are working on fixing.  We are very actively biomed and it is my hope that my son will get significantly better in the next few years.  He is the most special, beautiful blessing I could ever have in this life...he has shown me what life is all about and most of all what love truly is...I love him more then life itself...I'm so thankful to be apart of this group!  I look forward to getting to know you all better! xoxo

Hello everyone! My name is Brittany, I am from NY, attended Syracuse University where I  recieved my Maters in Early Childhood and Special Education. I just recently started a Family-Centered Applied Behavior Analysis and Autism Program for a pediatric therapy clinic in Montebello, CA. I have been working on the program and getting vendored with regional centers and contracts with schools since mid-February. The political restraints and budget cuts have made it quite a frustrating process and I honestly just miss doing what I am so passionate about and love more than anything, helping children and their famlies lead the best lives they can, so i decided to join. :) I want to use my knowledge, education, and experiences to help anyone I can, wherever I can....and I thought theres no better place to start than my own community. So I am hoping to respond to any posts/comments where I think my expertise can be beneficial. I am hoping to share some of my tools and get some feedback from moms about what your biggest struggles have been so that my program can really be tailored to WHAT YOU NEED! as well as your children's needs! Look forward to getting to know you all!
