I am new to sewing and i have always wanted to make my own skirts!  But, I dont know where to begin.  I have a Brothers cs6000i and i am learning how to use it. All of the skirts out there are either too short or to ugly!  lol   I want to be able to make my knee length a line skirt.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I tried skirt patterns & they didn't work for me, my suggestion is if you have a second hand store, you might find a skirt that fits the way you like, that doesn't cost much & take it home, take it apart & use it as a pattern. I took suit -skirt & top, apart & used it as a pattern, & it works great for me. Cause you can alter the pattern  & even add to them. I've made alot of outfit out of that pattern for church. Brother sewing machines are nice, I used to have one, my dh did alot of quilting on it.  I would suggest to start with some inexpensive fabric, when that way if you make a mistake it won't bother you so bad. that's what I did.

good luck on your sewing adventures- if I could help you in anyway please let me know

I very often find skirts at second hand stores and alter them.  If they are to big, than I can easily take the sides or elastic in and it is cheaper than buying the material.  The sad thing is, my daughter, who is 3, has several skirts that are meant to be mini skirts for older girls, but they are perfect for her after tightening the elastic lol.
