My son has been potty trained for a year now. He has started to use it has an excuse. Let me explain, When he gets in trouble or is suppose to be in bed he will tell us he has to go to the bathroom. He doesnt flash the toliet like he should so ill go and check to see if he went and he doesnt do anything. How can i  stop this with out him thinking he cant use the bathroom!!

Honey are you done in there???? If you are can you please hurry up mommy or daddy needs to go. Then go in, shut the door and slowly pour a glass of water in the toilet to make it sound like you went. Flush, wash hands and come out and explain that if he doesn't need to go he should not just sit in there in case mommy or daddy ( or anyone else in the household) needs to go. Kind of improvise to get it to work for you. I had a similar situation and that worked until she got older then it was something along the lines of hurry up there are 4 others out here waiting to go too....lol

what i have done with my three is like say we are talking about time out. i tell them to go try to go potty before they go stand in the corner and remind them while they are on the potty why mommy in not happy. if we are talking about going to bed i also ask them to try to go potty before bed and then they can go to the potty once after that and before going to sleep. once they go to sleep if they wake up needing to go by all means i let them go lol. i only do this long enough for them to realize that "i gotta go potty" does not get them out of anything and then i go back to free rain on when they can use the potty. i know it sounds mean but think about it it works well for me!
