We did this last year and I think after school we are going to do it again.

What you need

Crisco
Sandwich baggie/medical gloves
Ice water

Put your hand in the water...creally cold.
Now, put the Cisco on you hand or over the Baggie on your hand (perfect size for little ones). Put your hand back in the ice water. Not as cold. The Crisco insulates your hand like blubber does in artic animals.

Nice job. Sounds like a good experiment for a second grader.

The kids like it because they think it is silly we are putting baggies on their hands. Little do they know it is because I dont' want to worry about getting their hands clean. I guess though if you did without the baggies you could then turn it into an experiment of how well are you really washing your hands? Lol...
