Are ridiculously expensive.  What, in your opinion, is a good age for a girl to get one, if she wants one?

The standard doll cost $99.The custom ones are $150 or more. The clothes are crazy expensive as well. The target ones are actually cuter, and much more cost effective.

Haven't thought about these yet. Tay is still a little young. I knew they were expensive. Don't they have stores kinda with the same concept as Build a Bear where you can go in and get your doll?

She loves her target one, but has already matted the hair.  I can't imagine giving her a $100 doll and having her mess it up.

She actually saw one at Target that she wants for her "Christmas doll," for this year.

Well, against my better judgement, Ela got one for Christmas. (5 y/o) Way too young. She hasn't destroyed it yet, but she doesn't really take proper cre of it, either.

I bought my dd a "similiar" doll at Target when she was about 8.

Yeah.........I just can't see spending that on a 5 year old.  They are ridiculous. I think its cute though that you can customize them to look like your dd.

My daughter is getting one for her sixth birthday. She takes excellent care of her dolls or else I wouldn't have forked over the $$ for it and the accessories.

No the "my American girl" dolls are the same price as all the others. They are all $105. The target dolls are cheap and their hair gets messed up fast. With AG you can send the doll to the "hospital" if you have a problem and they will fix it. Not to mention they can last through many generations of girls. The target clothes and accessories will fit AG dolls and are really cute! I know some women who have had their dolls for twenty plus years. I'd much rather spend more now for a doll that will last than go back and forth to target paying $20 or so every time. You can buy dolls that look similar to your DD but as far as customizing them no, you can't. Other than adding earrings, glasses or hearing aids.
