Do you believe this man was fired because the pin said "God", as he claims?

Do you think 'Christian Privilege'--the belief of some Christians in America that they don't have to abide by the same rules regarding religion that others do--exists in America?

  • I think that the company truly didn't care until somebody complained about it, because it sad God on it. There is no christian privilege, if your christian you are not allowed to act like it because it will offend someone.  I don't care if you are or aren't a christian, more people should take that stance, just because you aren't doesn't mean i should change.

  • I think people should have the right to praise any God they want. And where pins with their beliefs. Home Depot  was wrong for firing the guy.

  • Its sad--I don't think he should have to take off his pin either and I would have done the same thing. As a person that shopped there often, I know that they wear pins and buttons that aren't Home Depot slogans all the time because I notice as they look messy all over those aprons... Just sad to me.

Just to clarify what you mean: are you saying that you think that company policy should not be enforced when the pin in question has a Christian message because he has the right to express his beliefs any way he wants?

  • This is a tough one. I worked at Home Depot a few yoears ago, and it is in the company policy that you cannot wear articles of clothing, pins, etc. that express religious beliefs, anything insulting, or anything politically incorrect that may offend someone. Now, they guy should not have been wearing it, but, Home Depot should have done something about it sooner, not wait until there was a possible complaint. IMO, both parties were wrong.

And do you think that is Christian Privilege?  Expecting a company to change its policy to accomodate a person's Christian beliefs?  We aren't talking about an essential practice of religious faith--for example refusing to give a Seventh Day Adventist Friday nights and Saturdays off for sabbath--we're talking about a pin.

  • Its a religious right to show Christianity however that works for you...I would say just the same as it is for a Jewish person to wear a yarmulke, or a Muslim women to wear a Burka...A christian wears a pin to show respect or a sign of their respect for their faith

I say if you don't like it--don't look

  • Bump.  I'm really curious about people's thoughts on this.  Especially with all of the "Christians can't express their beliefs at all in America anymore" sentiment that seems to be especially prevelant during the holidays.

  • I think this also had something to do with him bringing a bible to work.  I'm sorry I think there is more to this than is beng said.  He probably pissed someone off by preaching or challenging in some way.  It didn't just happen, he had something to do with it.
