Thoughts on manditory Tubal Ligation

should some women not be allowed to reproduce?

okay i know your thinking what is wrong with her she is a woman and she should be pro choice. Well, I am pro choice when it comes to abortions though I don't think it's for me. But to each his own. But this post is about tubal ligations. My opinion is that some women are just not right for motherhood, and should just not be allowed to give birth to a child they don't want, can't take care of, or just don't deserve. For example, I personally know a family member who use to use crack cocaine and had been using for as long as I can remember. She has had 9 children that we(my family) knows of. She has left children at the hospital, and even dumped them on family members. My mom even raised one of her children until they reached the age of 19. I just feel people like that shouldn't be able to continuously have child after child, with no consiquences, no care and no motherly need to do the right thing. I mean though this family member is now in her late forties and no longer on drugs and even is taking care of her last born child, her actions have really hurt her children in many ways. Another senario is a neighbor in my community is, in my opinion, a terrible mom. She is evil to her children, hits them with closed fist in public, curses them and even allows ppl to sale drugs in her home with her children there. We've personally called the police and CPS, but honestly in TN, through my eye sight, CPS cares nothing about each case. This girl has 6 children all under the age of about 8, of those 8 she has a set of triples whom r about 3 years old. I recently discovered the girls mother has custody of her children because of a child abuse charge she received. They are on govenment assistance and now the girl is pregnant again. All this and she is only 31 years old. I mean OMG seriously. When will it stop? So many issues in this case. She doesn't have a job which isn't aweful, but I hate that tax payers are taking care of her and her children while she allows men & women to come in and out of her house during the beginning of the month saling drugs. Then she abuses the kids and she doesn't even have custody of any of the 6 she has and now pregnant again. I find it ridiculous. I mean this is my first pregnancy and if I couldn't take care of another baby I wouldn't continue to get pregnant. I do feel that women in these cases, and cases like them, it should be mandatory that they get IUD or a Tubular. Because it's not right for the ppl who have to take on these responsibilities that these women have dumped on others, and on the taxpayers, and on society in a whole. I mean every case is different, so that's why I feel IUD's would be ideal for mandatory infertility. I just feel some women are horibble and selfish and only think about what feels good in the moment.  I know many will not agree, but if your out here having baby after baby depending on the government for support, not even looking for a job just sitting at home living high on the hog on some elses dime YOU'RE WRONG!!! And if your on drugs or you don't want your child(ren), you abuse them, or you just continue to reproduce without a care of who what where and when they can be taken care of... YOU'RE WRONG!!! Your SELFISH!!! And I feel that even a DOG can give birth. And a person like that just has not earned the title MOM, but hey that is just my opinion. And I know it sounds harsh, but I feel very passionate about this issue. It's one reason why I am going to become a social worker.  Your feed back is appreciated even if you don't agree and you feel you need to put me in my place, let me know what you think. Thanks

There has been a recent case here in NC (not far from my home) where a "mother" was charged with human trafficking and selling her child in to prostitution. Her five year old child was raped and killed. Our whole state is heartbroken by this. The "mother" is in jail as we speak and currently pregnant.

While I wouldn't have probably agreed with this before...after this horrific case I think THIS woman should be sterilized...among other things....

Not all parents are good parents.  It isn't illegal to be a really crappy parent.  So, no, sterilizing isn't the answer.  That is a collateral damage approach.  A better approach, imo, is parent mentoring programs to match young moms with older moms.

I don't believe in mandetory sterilization.  Once they start it with the bad apples, soon they will start doing it on the good apples.  They will give EVERYONE limits on how many children you can have.  Which is rediculous.  If you can afford to have 20 kids, and you want that many, then do it.  I do think that the "bad apples" should have an option to free birth control, or get fixed for free.

I am a breastfeeding, cloth diapering, no CIO, baby wearing, non vaxing, non circumsizing(if i had a boy),  plan to homeschool, plan to homebirth,  extended rear facing, loving, Christian mom and wouldnt change it for the world

Hmmm you waged a debate in my mind. On one side is the medical intervention against a persons will, and on the other side is everthing you discussed, then a third side is the thought that sterilization would be extreme in many cases, finally who would get to decide and who is going to pay for it.

I have to think about this further then I will be back to comment.

You know who *I* think shouldn't be able to have children? People who don't bother to learn about grammar and spelling.

As much as poor grammar and spelling annoys me (and no, I do NOT mean just typos, I mean horrendously poor writing skills) I just have to eye rollingat this comment.

I am so for forced sterilization I think it should be mandated in certain cases.

Like for financial reasons?  I'm all for that!  If a parent can't afford a kid, they shouldn't endanger the by even having them.  We wouldn't need welfare, food stamps or anything like that.  I think I've changed my mind. I too think sterilization is in order in some cases.

Wow. So we should forcibly disallow the poor to reproduce? What's the cut-off on income? What would happen if a parent became destitute and in need of welfare AFTER having children? What would you prescribe then? What happens when a forcibly sterilized person suddenly hits it big and has the means to support a large family?

What a load of shit. Maybe we can spread the love around the little. Like, maybe we can forcibly sterilize new immigrants? Brown people that pray to Allah? Then ALL of our problems would be solved, right? Maybe you should talk to HerbertWalker Bush about this- he had all kinds of the same ideas for fighting communism!
