If you say yes: Why and for how long? Should it be equal to the time off women receive?
If you say no: Why?

I believe they already do.....and if im not mistaken its about the same amount of time granted to a woman.....3 mnths......and I for one support this bcuz men also need bonding time with their new child.
men already do, at least here in the u.s. under the family medical leave act (assuming they meet the obligations of it just as any woman would have to.) i believe its up to 12 weeks that they are protected (men and women). but it could also depend on the job. under the FMLA it covers adoption, caring for sick family members and something else too. my hubby took 6 weeks when we had our daughter. best thing in the world!!!
i absolutely 100% believe men should be allowed to have paternity leave. just as much as the mother. it's not just about recovering from birth. it's about being able to bond and take time away from what you would normally be doing to ease into this new life.
I think women need a little more time because other than the bonding time they are also letting their bodies heal and recouperate...
But I totally think men should get some leave as well! My husband got 10 days (military amount given). But he was allowed to take 2 weeks when I was about 8 months along to help with our son because I had some health issues...

The military offers paternity leave... well my husband got paternity leave... IDK if it was called that or if the timing was right but my husband had a month off. I had Derek on the 27th of December and my husband had work that day. He was able to be there with me the whole time. I guess it was CTO (certified time off) then he had his christmas break then he took 2 weeks of leave but IDK if it was leave or just more CTO. Either way I think dads should get at least 2 weeks off.

My husband got 2 weeks with me when our son was born. I heard that the military changed it. Now they are suppose to get 21 days after baby is born.
Yes they should. How it works here is that most places will give 3 days paid leave around the birth. Then of the 50w of mat leave (paid at 55% of your regular wage through Employment Insurance) 15w are maternity that can only be taken my the mother, and 35w are parental that can be taken by either parent or split between them. My hubby never used any of the parental leave, but several men he works with have. Mom would take 6 months and then Dad would take the next 6, though they can be taken at the same time so both mom and dad are home for the first 6 months. You are guaranteed your position or an equal (if yours no longer exists) one when you return (that's for mom or dad).

Do they let them do this if they are deployed over seas?
