So this isn't news but it sure is current - Thanksgiving Side Dishes/Traditions
We can always talk about the news but how often can we talk about our traitions for Thanksgiving.
My family has a very routine ritual. I tried to change it this year, thought I had suceeded but at the last minute my parents tricked me...the green jello salad will be making an appearance on our table tomorrow.
So what are the things your family can't live without on Thanksgiving? Are there any unusual dishes that only make an appearance once or twice a year? Are there things you would be happy to never have to see/eat/make again?
I can say I lost this battle over the green jello salad but there is still time to change up Christmas dinner. :)

Happy Thanksgiving !
I pretty much do the cooking every Thanksgiving and we have the usual Turkey.
We also have stuffing (inside the Turkey) , Mashed potatoes, Sweet potatoes, a vegetable (sugar snap peas) tomorrow, cranberry sauce, 5 cup salad, homemade bread, and pumpkin pie.
We also usually try and have homeless, lonely elderly, a struggling family, whoever. Tomorrow we are having an elderly woman that is a widow. She would otherwise be alone tomorrow.
We go around the table and each tell what we are especially thankful for.
Hope you all have a very blessed Thanksgiving : )

Happy Thanksgiving,
We normally do the same things every year turkey mashed potaotes w/ a homemade gravy 2 veggies, home made bread or rolls, stuffing. Its normally just my mom, and the 4 of us but this year we invited a friend who has no family and then yesterday I got a curve ball thrown at me and another family friend and her 3 year old pretty much invited herself after talking to my mom and will be joining us too. Thankfully I got a 12lb turkey but I still have to go to the store and pick up extra items so we have enough food. I hate last min shopping.

We have started some new traditions here (it's only the kids 2nd and 3rd T-Days) and I also keep to some old ones. The old ones are following my Grandma Addie's basic T-Day menu and then I also add one new dish to try. I also always make her homemade dinner rolls, even though its a pain in the butt. Another old tradition for me is that the Christmas Lights are up and first turned on Thanksgiving Night. Newer traditions are that I make a homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast and we all watch the parade and specials together in the morning while the turkey is cooking away and that DH (and not my father) carves the turkey and that we all say what we are thankful for before the meal.

1 cup sour cream
1 cup marshmellows
1 cup coconut
1 cup mandarin oranges
1 cup pineapple chunks (sometimes I will use fruit cocktail)

We have poultry allergies in the family so I always make a ham as well as a large turkey. I stuff my turkey , bake candied sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, a few veggies, ambrosia, pasta salad, coleslaw, relishes, deviled eggs, a cheese platter, breads and of course lots of pumpkin pie with whipped cream.
This yr we have 24 guests coming and 9 of them are under 7. With the 3 that live here that is 13 children under 7!
Ahhh, soon the work begins, lol.
