Will it break a marriage?

Angelina Jolie Not a Fan of Obama

USMagazine, November 24, 2009

Barack Obama does not have Angelina Jolie's seal of approval.

"She hates him," a source close to the U.N. goodwill ambassador, 34, tells the new issue of Us Weekly (on newsstands now).

"She's into education and rehabilitation and thinks Obama is all about welfare and handouts. She thinks Obama is really a socialist in disguise," adds the source.

But don't expect to see the Salt actress rally against Democrats on Fox News like her staunch Republican father, Jon Voight.

"Angie isn't Republican, but she thinks Obama is all smoke and mirrors," the source says.

And those political views are putting her at odds with Brad Pitt, 45, who is a big fan of the president and even went solo to the 2008 election party in Chicago.

"They get in nasty arguments all the time about it," says the source. "She doesn't respect Brad when it comes to politics, but, in the end, this won't tear them apart."

Do you think that politics can break a marriage or should something like that not matter?

I read about that in Star magazine a few days ago. I just don't really trust anything that magazine says. Will it break up a marriage? If so then it wasn't much of one to begin with. Will it break up their relationship? I doubt it.

IDK how much I trust the actual story but it brought to mind this question so I posted it so others could see where the idea came from. I wonder about this because I know some people will actually disown their children for a different political stance, I have not heard of it breaking a marriage before though.

I don't think this time it has anything to do with the marriage because Jon Voight is a Staunch Republican and a very Religious man...For lack of a better word..should I say he is spiritual and believes in God wholeheartedly... I think Brad Pitt is a Democrat though.....Not that I think that has anything to do with anything..Just saying..

I dont think it will break them up

It depends on the people. If politics is their whole focus... it won't work.

I will say that I was very selective with the person I married. I wouldn't have married anyone who had opinions, beliefs, etc. that different than mine. For me, my religious beliefs are at the core of who I am, and it also defines my political beliefs. That said, I wouldn't have married someone who had different beliefs than mine. It wouldn't be a strong or cohesive marriage... IMO>

That's just me, but then look at Arnold and Maria here in CA.

That very couple was one of the ones who came to mind when I was considering posting this.

My husband believes in not talking about politics, and I can be a bit of an activist sometimes, lol.  He really is a whole lot more conservative than I am, I voted for Obama and he was anti Obama, big time.

We have been together 22 yrs married for 17 :)

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

I don't think it should matter, but in some marriages I'm sure it does.  My husband is conservative, and I don't consider myself political at all.  (Yet here I am...lol)  I know married couples who both go to the polls and vote against each other's candidate. lol.  Silly.

I don't think her political beliefs will make or break her marriage. I believe how she got brad will break it. JMO.

I know of no race problem. The great problem that confronts the American people to-day is a national problem -- whether this great nation of ours is great enough to live up to its own convictions, carry out its own declaration of independence, and execute the provisions of its own constitution.
