Do you honestly believe that a persons numerical age equals their level of understanding?

No I think some children grow up way to quickly and understand way to much abuse and poverty earlier than others of the same age.

I think it does in many cases and I also think that young people have less impulse control.  It's not condoning their actions, but I think we have to be mindful of a person's age when they commit crimes.  I also think a younger person is more capable of rehabilitation.

No, but it can be an indication of what could be expected.  Like the pages some Drs give at well baby visits:  A guide for what is possible ya know?

Every person is different and matures at a different way, and both nature and nurture affect growth I think.

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

Pam,

I appologize but I am not completely understanding; are you saying that a persons chronological age equals their level of understanding in all cases? It seems you are saying that a younger person never has the level of understanding an adult has but I could be reading this wrong.

Right it can, but then they have multiple differentials for premies and certain disorders. Should they then always run tests to determine a persons level of understanding of what they did?

Age has a lot to do with it. I think we have given up on are youth. They need someone to believe in them.

Yes I do My 13 yr old is in most area more mature than my 19 and 17 yr olds. She handles stress and is more responsible and more goal oriented than they are.My older 2 were raised by there father and were allowed to do as they pleased my youngest by my and has rules. The older belive they should be allowed everything without any responsibilty and they show none they are mentally at the 5 yr old stage if I don't get my way I throw a fit or I will hit you .They have no plans fro there future my youngest has been working on her's since she was 9 .When the youngest doesn't get her way she takes it with a grain of salt and seems to undestand you don't always get everything.I do believe age and living enviroment plays a big factor in development and a chemical or brain development delay would only make it worse.
