ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—Tiger Woods was seriously injured early Friday when he hit a fire hydrant and a tree near his Florida home, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the PGA star hit the fire hydrant and tree as he pulled out of his driveway in his 2009 Cadillac sport utility vehicle.

Woods was taken to Health Central Hospital. Officials there did not have record of him as a patient, though the news release said Woods’ injuries were serious.

The highway patrol said the crash is still under investigation, and charges are pending. However, the highway patrol said the crash was not alcohol-related.

Woods, 33, owns a home in the exclusive subdivision of Isleworth near Orlando. Orange County property records indicate his home is valued at $2.4 million.

CNN is reporting that he was treated for facial lacerations and released.

OMG...how awful! I hope he is able to overcome the injuries. How does backing into something cause 'serious' injury? Makes me wonder if maybe he hasn't suffered another health issue like a heart attack or something that caused his foot to really press down on the gas..other than something bizarre like that, I just don't understand it.

I was thinking the same thing or maybe a fight with the wife and he was upset.....I live an hour from his home and of course it is big news here and unless they snuck him out of the hospital no one is saying he was released.

I couldn't imagine it being very serious but having seen a car flip on a access road around a mall I guess anything is possible. But, I guess serious is MSMs way of drawing in readers.

That is good, hopefully he will get over the bumps and bangs from it quickly. Even when they are not serious the sudden stop can make anyone very sore.

They just said his wife had to use a golf club to break out the back window to help him out.....And that charges against him are pending...[Maybe for the fire hydrant...the last is my guess..]

Why? I mean wouldn't that just be a ticket? If they say he wasn't drinking or anything...I don't think we're hearing the whole story here...
