Do you know a child with autism?

Ok, I'm really curious.  How many of us have a child on the spectrum, or have a friend with an autistic child, or know of a friend of a friend with an autistic child?  I'm curious how many of us are actually affected by autism.  Both of my boys are on the spectrum, although very high functioning and at opposite ends.  What about you?

Yes, two of my three children are autistic. Josh is non-verbal and moderate on the spectrum and has a problem with elopement.

Rachel is also on the spectrum, a high functioning savant with Aspberger's Syndrome.

Elopement?  Does that mean he runs away?  My little guy is a runner.  He was doing so much better, but he got away from daddy last week.  Daddy caught him down the street talking to the ice cream man.  Thank goodness that is all that happened.

I know a few high functioning autistic children.  I know a few autistic adults, one not so high functioning.

I wonder about my youngest daughter and whether she would been shown to be on the spectrum if she were a child today, truthfully.  (She is 25)

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

Yes, he is a runner. Elopement is the proper term for it. I live in a fortress basically because of it. SInce his diagnosis at the age of three, he's gotten out several times. Over the course of the last several years, it has gotten a little better, but I am ever vigilant. We have keyless double locks on the doors. Last time he got away was last year September time. He was missing for about 4 hours, they used about 200 cops, include harbor, aviation and the dog to find him

He found THEM. LOL...
