The Educated ?

I was talking to a friend at the playground and she had made a statement " Those with college educations lack common sense".  I was offended by this remark.  She explained that when those that have gone to college get brainwashed by their professors and are told what to think, they lack common sense.

What do you think ?  Or do you ?

Then again the argument could be made that those who did not go to college indeed lacked the common sense to do so. Common sense, or lack of, has to do with the individual not the education or lack of education.

I have a college degree and a ton of common sense... but then again, I was strong enough not to get brainwashed by the liberal faculty at my University LOL...

If someone is brainwashed then they are weak minded no matter the education. As for common sense it must be taught at a very early age if it can be taught at all. Some never have it others do, some think they have it.

I agree with her in a way. College professors often do not want you to have your own opinion they want you to have theirs and only theirs. They want you to interpret information the way they see fit and if your ideas are outside of theirs they will fail you. Not all of them are that way but several are. However, if you are only parroting back what a person wants to hear then you are not gaining knowledge only the ability to conform.

LOL I honestly believe I have met an equal amount of people lacking common sense. Educated or not. However the educated do have the common sense not to use phrases like "educated by the school of life", or "educated by the school of hard knocks". Nothing screams lack of education AND common sense like these type of phrases. IMO

There are people on both sides (college educated vs. no college) who are lacking in common sense, along with logical and critical thinking.  I am of the opinion that researching whatever opinion a teacher, professor, politician, or minister points out, is crucial to not being "brainwashed".

My liberal opinions existed long before I got my college degree.
