Hot Topic (12/9): Do you believe in an afterlife?
Do you believe in heaven?
Do you believe in hell?
Why or why not?
I am Catholic, that means- heaven, hell, and purgatory are on my "afterlife" list!

Why or why not? I think that the Bible is the word of God and that these places exist as stated in the Book. I find a great deal of comfort in the existence of both places, while that may be an unpopular stance. I agree completely with the consequence of Hell for the unrepentant, there are always consequences in life, why shouldnt that continue into the afterlife?

I believe we live and we die- the end. Some might think that sad but only because they feel their life needs some purpose or they fear ceasing to exist. I think because of religious dogma, people tend to think this world evil and only concentrate on death and life just passes them by.
Because I don't believe in heaven or hell and this is the only life i will ever have, I am able to strive to make it the best life I can, and to make a lasting impact on the generations to come. I do not live for the afterlife, but for the life I have right now.
I do think that we all have a 'life'force' made of energy and if that energy is strong enough in life, it might just remain behind after death. I don't think it has a consciousness or intelligence though or hangs out in paradise or the pits of hell.
I believe in Heaven and Hell and I believe it because I believe the Bible is the true word of God and as a born again Christian I feel the truth through the Holy Spirit when I study the Bible.

I agree with this! I am a former Catholic turned Agnostic. Something always felt wrong about the whole heaven/hell concept to me. I still feel that there may have been a creator of some sort, maybe a God, but I have no proof and don't have blind faith. And I also agree that there is some sort of alternate plane of existence. But not sure if that applies to everyone. Many, many questions I have!!

I believe in reincarnation and an afterlife of some sort, but not heaven and hell. The whole point of reward and punishment is that you learn something from it, so if either of these things is eternal, it becomes completely pointless.
