Hypocrisy: Beck says progressives resort to name-calling, shouting, and accusations of racism

During an event for their Bold Fresh Tour, portions of which aired during the January 25 edition of Fox & Friends, Bill O'Reilly asked Glenn Beck why progressives "want to hurt us," and Beck replied: "If you can't win the argument, you have to shout them down, you have to call them racist, you have to call them names. You have to do whatever it is you have to do." In fact, Beck himself has a history of calling people, including President Obama, "racist," shouting at those who disagree with him, and resorting to calling progressives names like "evil," socialists, communists, and Marxists.

Beck says those "against" him "can't win the argument," so they resort to shouting, race-baiting, name-calling

From the Bold Fresh Tour, aired on the January 25 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

O'REILLY: Why do you think there's a level of hatred against you and against me that there is? I mean, look, I was kidding about Bill Maher before. I don't hate Bill Maher. I like --

BECK: I don't either.

O'REILLY: I mean, he's not my kind of guy, but I don't want to hurt him. I don't, you know -- I'll make fun of him. But these people want to hurt us. They want to hurt us. Why do you think that is?

BECK: I think because that's the only way you can win the argument. Look, I mean --

O'REILLY: But they can't win the argument.

BECK: No, I know that. So what do you do? It is -- I mean, it's why Woodrow Wilson put thousands of Americans behind bars. If you can't win the argument, you have to shout them down, you have to call them racist, you have to call them names. You have to do whatever it is you have to do. If that doesn't work, the revolutionary way is as Robert Creamer -- as I pointed out on the show. Here's a guy who went to prison for embezzlement -- has designed the progressive blueprint that Obama is using. David Axelrod says that. In a newspaper article when I expose him, he says that we must do whatever we have to do, whatever it takes, to shut him down. Well, what do you think that means?

O'REILLY: Yeah. No, OK, I think that's a good answer. There's no other reason for it -- other than jealousy.

Beck has called both Obama and Sotomayor "racist"

Beck called Obama a "racist." After a week of race-baiting in July 2009, Beck said during an appearance on Fox & Friends that Obama has "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture." After being reminded that Obama has numerous white staffers, Beck contradicted himself, stating, "I'm not saying that he doesn't like white people. I'm saying he has a problem," before going on to state, "This guy is, I believe, a racist." Beck later said on his radio show that he "stands by" his comments that Obama is a "racist," adding, "I deem him a racist by his own standard, the standard of the left."

Beck called Sotomayor a "racist." Beck has also called Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor a "racist" on at least three separate occasions.

Beck routinely stoops to name-calling

Beck routinely calls progressives names like Marxists, "vampires," and communists. Beck has repeatedly smeared progressives and Democratic leaders with his long history of calling them communists and Marxists; for example, on his radio show, Beck concluded, "I do believe that Barack Obama is a socialist" who "has Marxist tendencies." Beck has also portrayed progressives as "vampires" who can only be stopped by "driv[ing] a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers," and obsessively compared Democrats in Washington to Nazis and fascists and "the early days of Adolf Hitler." He wondered, "Is this where we're headed?" while showing images of Hitler, Stalin, and Lenin;decoded the secret language of Marxists; and compared the government to "heroin pushers" who were "using smiley faced fascism to grow the nanny state."

Beck in 2010: More of the same name-calling. This month alone, Beck has said that Ted Kennedy lived a "long and evil life," said the progressive movement is "evil," compared it to Italian fascism, andcompared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to "Fire Marshal Bill" before asking whether she "had more plastic surgery." Beck has also suggested that Obama is a "slave master" and compared him to Hugo Chavez; said progressives and liberals are anti-Israel and "anti-Jew, in many ways"; and againcompared progressives to "vampires" who have a "taste of blood" and are "gonna start getting more and more violent."

Beck's own book is called Arguing with IdiotsIn his 2009 book, Arguing with Idiots, Beck purports to engage in an ongoing debate with an "idiot" who supports positions with which Beck disagrees.

Beck once shouted down a caller who disagreed with him, called her a "pinhead"

Beck "lose[s]" his "mind;" screams at caller: "Get off my phone you little pinhead!" On the July 15, 2009, edition of Beck's nationally syndicated radio show, Beck ranted at a caller who disagreed with his position on universal health care. After the caller asked him, "What would you do to change this health care system for the better?" Beck screamed, "Get off my phone. Get off my phone, you little pinhead. ... I'm going to lose my mind today."

Now we know why the followers lack serious critical thinking skills and resort to name calling instead.

Yep. I'm afraid of Beck. It's scary that someone so challenged can have such a huge following. And pssst it's easy to see that you follow.

Challenged? He blows the competition out of the water. If you are implying that he ismentally 'challenged', I'd be willing to bet his IQ is higher than that of the rabid Olbermann you libs so fondly adore.

He's right about the name-calling. Thanks for proving the point.

Oh, I don't follow, I lead. You're projecting.
