Mad about Haiti donations

I see a few people, here and elsewhere online, that are angry that Americans are donating to Haiti. The usual excuse has either something to do with there being needy people in America, or some random spout about Katrina.

So, my question is this. If you are angry about Haiti, because we need the help here, please tell me a couple of things. How much of your time and money do you donate to needy Americans? What have you done to help the Katrina victims? If the answer is nothing, then what right do you have to complain?

Your mind is like an umbrella in the rain, if it's open, it works. If it's closed..............

That is a really good point and post.      Why whine and moan about helping a poor country and is clearly in a state of emergency because Americans need help first and foremost.    That is a little selfish IMO.   Americans that are in dire straits and need help can get it.   They will always have access to clean water, food and shelter, even education and financial assistance.   The people in Haiti dont have anything as luxurious as that......they are hoping to survive a horrible tradgedy.  There is  a HUGE difference in 'need'.    Besides, those who bitch and whine about fundraising using their tax dollar are the same ones that freely hand over 7M PER DAY to fund Israeli's demonic obsession to destroy Palestine.    Think about that.

lol! exactly!! great questions

I am not against Haiti donations, in fact, I encourage them... but to answer your questions

How much of your time and money do you donate to needy Americans? I am NOT American, but I donate food, money, clothes to my local food bank and church to give to the needy. I am not doing a project with the church to fill a baby bottle for a whole month in order to give to a new mother in need.. and funny, I think I have done more for AMERICANS than my own people...

What have you done to help the Katrina victims? Lately, nothing. But when Katrina happened my husband and I were among the people at the Astro Dome passing out water, buying food, giving blankets and so forth.

... I think people just like to complain, they don't seem to realize that the decision to help others is not solely theirs... I can help if I want to.. don't complain if it isn't coming out of YOUR pocket ;-)

Yeah, there's this anti-Haiti benefit/pro-America rant going around FaceBook, ending with "99% of people won't have the GUTS to repost this!!!!" WTF? You have "guts" to be against helping other people in the world. Um, okay...

confused

Good points, all.  The poor in this country live like KINGS compared to the Haitians.  Most Haitians would likely give their right arms to be among the poor in America.  That is not to say that we shouldn't help the poor right here at home, but come on, when something like a natural disaster devestates another nation, how do we NOT help them and still look at ourselves in the mirror every day?

I see what you are saying.

I do give to my community in many different ways..

I think so of the questioning so much help for Haiti, comes do to the questions of why do we need to rebuild Haiti?  Helping is one thing, rebuilding is another.

We are having the worst economic crisis since the depresssion. I think some people are just fustrated to see so much money going there, when so many here need help.  Where are the fundraisers for our homeless??

Where is the celebrity telethon on the tv stations for our homeless families?  or the single moms who are stuggling making a choice between paying rent or daycare..  I think that is where some of the backlash is coming from..

I hate seeing the people of Haiti suffer, I really do.  But it is equally as disturbing to see people here suffer and they get very little attention.

I would fall into the 99% who didn't repost that stupid message. Mainly because I believe deeply in helping Haiti and donated what I could. That's just jackassery.

DId you know that our poverty line is $22,000 per year. So if you make less than $22,000 per year, you are considered to be inpoverished. Haiti's GDP is negative. How can we compare 20,000 a month to negative in Haiti? People are so selfish.

And the same people who complain about the government giving money to Haiti, saying they should be spending that money on the our people are usually the same people who complain about the so called docialist programs set up to give aid to our poorest.
