Homeowner Kills Attempted Robber In Driveway Shootout
When are the bad guys gonna notice some people are packing?
OCOEE -- A man returning home from work was met at gunpoint Tuesday. Little did suspects know he was armed with a gun of his own.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. in the driveway of a quiet Ocoee neighborhood.
The homeowner, identified as Dave Henry, got out of his car and may have been pistol-whipped by the suspects, according to Ocoee police.
Police said one of two suspects had a gun and they were trying to rob the man.
But the homeowner, who has a concealed weapons permit, pulled his own handgun. He exchanged gunfire with the suspects.
When the smoke cleared, one suspect was killed and the other got away.
"We don't know the identity of the man," Bryant said. "He had gloves on his hands and concealed his face. He had tattoos that will be helpful in identifying the suspect."
Police say the homeowner's family was home when the shooting happened, but can't give any details.
"They were asleep at the time. When they came down it was all over with." said Sgt. Mike Bryant of the Ocoee Police Department. "He doesn't know why he was a target."
