Tea Party protesters reportedly spit on one lawmaker, call others ‘faggot' and the n-word.

Today's Code Red rally appears to be one of the most raucous Tea Party gatherings on Capitol Hill yet. In addition to protesters shouting with rage at federal lawmakers, Sam Stein reports on some more disturbing incidents:

A staffer for Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told reporters that Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-M.D.) had been spit on by a protestor. Rep. John Lewis (D-G.A.), a hero of the civil rights movement, was called a ‘ni-er.' And Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was called a "faggot," as protestors shouted at him with deliberately lisp-y screams. Frank, approached in the halls after the president's speech, shrugged off the incident.

But Clyburn was downright incredulous, saying he had not witnessed such treatment since he was leading civil rights protests in South Carolina in the 1960s.

"I heard people saying things that I have not heard since March 15, 1960 when I was marching to try and get off the back of the bus," [said Clyburn.]

Clyburn added, "I think a lot of those people today demonstrated that this is not about health care...it is about trying to extend a basic fundamental right to people who are less powerful." TPM, Mother Jones, and The Hill have reports of similar behavior by the Tea Party protesters.

I am not one to pull the race card... and I don't think I have ever claimed on here that the tea party is racist... but this makes me think... well maybe people have been right about the tea party?...

I am telling you now, that not all tea baggers are racist.  I have been to a tea party rally and not one time did I hear rascist remarks.  We were all there with our families, little children too.  If I were to hear a racist slurr, I would have been the first one to tell them to shut their mouths.  I don't want my children hearing that.  We were their to protest the politicis, not someone's race or sexually orintination.

OMG, they came to  my town right down my block at the local municipal center. They were pretty peaceful but their signs screamed closed minded bigots. It was sad because they brought babies. Wow- shocking.....

Because of a few bad apples which by the way are in EVERY group, don't you love being steriotyped like this?

Exactly.  I might have missed somebody doing this, admittedly, but I have never seen anybody called a liar for saying SOME tea baggers are racist -- I have seen plenty of people called liars for saying "Tea Baggers are racist".

Awwwwwwww poor guys.  People(All People) say a lot of things when their feet are put to the fire.  In fact people say things to show their displeasure all the time. You do, your SO does, Your kids do and if you don't know the person you are swearing at when they cut you off or colorfully complaining about the drunk down the street or the new rules put out by your childs school (it could be anything) it makes it so much easier.   It has nothing to do with the color or nationality of whoever gets your wrath.  I'm sure poor Mr Lewis and Cleaver were not the only people hollared at by anyone so get over it.   Only a small % of congress is black or gay and I bet my right arm the others were getting a mouthfull also.

I wonder if anyone was out there reporting on the nastiness going on within the group of anti-war people at the same time?     Hmmmmm

Yup, I think that would be considered a double standard.

Well the old saying is "garbage in, garbage out".

These people fill their heads with the doublespeak from Faux news, NewsMax, WorldNetDaily and the like. So of course all they are going to regurgitate is the trash that they hear.

Can we expect anything more from them?
