Our misunderstanding of evolution is distressing

This Saturday, Feb. 12, would have been Charles Darwin’s 202nd birthday. While his place in history is assured, the theory he popularized is misunderstood or disbelieved by a great number of Americans.

Recent polls have found that out of the world’s democracies, the United States ranks second to last (Turkey is last) in acceptance of evolution. This is disturbing, as it contributes to the decline of American power in the 21st century.

Darwin ‘s theory of evolution has withstood extensive testing by thousands of scientists for over 150 years. The validity of its existence is beyond dispute and yet many cling doggedly to the creation story found in the book of Genesis, a myth that defies reason.

Adam and Eve, supposedly the first humans, awake fully grown, they have no childhood. They have no mother, nor did they ever have one.

Their father is a disembodied voice offering no love, only demanding total obedience from his children. He forbids them to think, to ask questions, to partake of the fruit from the Tree Of Knowledge. What kind of father is this?

It IS embarrassing.  This push from a certain group to ignore science sets our country way back.

In my opinion, evolution is a pretty far fetched theory.

Why?

It's the theory that most accurately describes a set of scientific facts - a little more accurately than the bible does.

This is thinking that sets us back.

And what a horribly skewed and biased article!

Let's just come right out and say that Creationists are idiots.

It's evolution that is the MYTH.  Creation has been accepted for 5000 years, Darwinism, less than a couple hundred years.

How so Poodles? Please elaborate.

How is a theory that describes and puts together (quite well) a set of scientific facts a myth?

What theory do you feel better represents these facts?
