Christians and movies...how picky are you?

I will watch horror movies(not the massacre type but the more thriller/mystery/paranormal type). I am picky as I don't watch movies that are all about sex and of course, I don't watch porn. I know Christians that don't watch ANY tv because they think it's of the devil. Where are you? For those who are not Christian, do you judge what Christians watch on the tv and movies. Do you ever see them as hypocrites based on what they watch?

I'm picky about movies because I hate sitting in one place for 2 1/2 hrs and paying $20 to do it.

But I'm even pickier about what I let my kids watch.

YUP, it is expensive. We don't have cable(not because it's evil to us but to save money). I watch dvd's and what is online.

I'm very picky about movies and there's not much out there decent enough for us to watch.  No, I don't believe television is "the devil" but the profanity and cursing and sex turns me off so I don't watch television.  We have just basic cable so I can watch Fox news and Jeopardy.

We did have Veggie Tales tapes for the kids when they were little, and used to Watch Little House on the Prairie every afternoon, and we own a lot of classic stuff...all the Shirley Temple movies---my girls loved them, and I have the complete series of I love Lucy shows on DVD and the Partridge Family.

But nope, for the most part, NO TV here.   Classic DVDs are what we watch IF we watch---but we have better things to do than watch those much either.

I'm pretty open.

I'm an adult.  I recognize movies and TV for what they are - mindless entertainment.

I don't attribute demonic forces to a movie or TV show.  And personally, I think that tendency trivializes evil and diminishes the true horror of evil - both human evil and the supernatural kind of evil.

And no - I don't judge other Christians on what they choose to watch.  I will however call them on their hypocrisy if they're guilty of it.

Good post.  I like watching scary movies,. but not some,. bc I absolutely do believe some open the door.  I don't watch movies/shows with alot of cussing and i don't care for sex scenes.  I'm much more strict with what I allow my kids to watch.  I understand where other Christians are coming from so though I don't always agree - I can appreciate their opinion on movies like Harry Potter or whatever,. plus my mom's like that.

We don't watch many movies, most of them just aren't something we want to watch.  I have been to the movies 3 times in the last 20 years:   3 Men and a Baby

           The Passion

           Flight 93

THANK YOU:)

I don't watch Harry Potter but I really don't know much about the books other than what I have read about it. I am not interested in it anyhow so really it does not matter. I enjoy the Twilight series. There are Christians who avoid it because they associate it partially with replacing Christ(living forever). I know there are more than one reason but this one sticks out to me.

I am picky about the horror movies. I don't see the point in watching people get killed brutally(sp?). I don't see how this is a good thing to watch--seeing human suffering even(especially) for entertainment but I don't judge those who do because I am not in their head. This is how I feel.

you know I'm not really into the gore and all that either,. i just like movies that really scare me,. I'm not sure why , most 'scary' movies have really let me down anyway :)  I think grudge was teh last movie that actually scared me.
