A wildfire burning on Green Mountain, northwest of the Air Force Academy, has reached 10 acres. The Academy reports it is 0% contained at this time.

Several fire crews are working there and helicopters are dropping water on the flames. Tri Lakes Fire is in command until the Forest Service arrives. The fire is burning on U.S. Forest Service land.

The command center is set up on Baptist Road, west of I-25.

Sarah Schwabe, from the KKTV 11 Storm Team, says there is a mass of dry air in the area and sustained winds are approximately 10-15 mph.

One witness who called the KKTV 11 Newsroom says he believes the fire spread from some trees that caught fire nearby.

Northbound I-25 traffic in the area is significantly congested.

KKTV 11 News has a crew headed to the scene. Keep checking this story for update.

:(  I hate forest fires

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver
