Do you think those on Foodstamps should have a dog, cat, etc.?
Oh, I know this post will strike some nerves and my answer is NO. If you can't provide your family with food then how will you afford a vet bill, get the dog shots, spayed, etc.? What if it gets sick?
This EXCLUDES those who apply for food stamps, (your hubby or YOU lose your job) and you already own Fido. But if you are on the system, and then you go and adopt Fido, is that fair?
Discuss.
i dont really think its wise. it costs money to have a pet... vet care, grooming, food, license, etc... if you need assistance feeding your kids then you shouldnt take on another non-essential financial responsibility.
pets are cheaper than kids. I would prefer they have pets over more children.
We already had our dog when we got on FS, and he's part of the family lol (he's almost 7 and we've had him since he was a puppy. Besides, watch dogs are a must in this town). But would I add to the # of pets in this house? Hell no!! I won't even have more kids that we can't afford (something that seems to be an unheard-of thought with people on assistance).
No
But thinking that means I hate poor and I want them to suffer for not having money because they have a right to a pet.
Better question is why o so many of you think it is your job to tell others how to live, think act and eveerything else. I get so tired of seeing these posts. Why can't people just leave others alone.
Because if you have the money to adopt and care for a pet, then maybe you don't need the assistance being given to you from the government. Responsible people wouldn't do that.
Quoting twinsforlove:Honestly how is it any of your buisness? I am not on anything like that just WIC but still why are we all always getting in EVERYONE elses buisness?
I don't care what people do when they are supporting themselves....

I don't think it's responsible to incur a new, regular expense when you are on assistance. We had our dog for a few years before bad times hit, had her trained perfect for our family and the kids would be heartbroken. I don't think people should have to get rid of their pets, who are often like family when things get rough. Those animals can help the family deal with the stress, My dog has been a great companion especially with losing my mom, she seems to know when I'm upset and likes to hang out near me.

But how is that AFFECTING YOU!?! How does that keep YOU from living YOUR life and doing what YOU need to do.....taxes or what ever will come out no matter what but really its not affecting YOU
