Well it's official! As of today I'm a homeschoolin mama! I think I'm going to quit...
I was so excited today! I got all of ds books and school work. I was all ready to get started tomorrow, with a brand new lesson plan all written out. Then...I looked at it. Yeah the whole thing looks like Chinese.
I have like ten text books, 3 teachers additions, a slew of papers, and some complicated paper that tells me everything that needs to be completed by the end of the month.
I'm about ready to cry and it's only first grade!!! So out of desperation I called his old school and made an appointment to meet with the principal. He offered to go over everything and explain it. I hope I can figure this out. I knew homeschooling would be rough but God damn, lol.
Have any of you homeschooling moms had this hard of a time?
Look at what needs to be accomplished by the end of the month and break it down into days. I don't have to be done with anything by a specific date so we are able to go at our own pace.
Theres an amazing homeschool group here too. Check it out! Those ladies are amazing and extremely helpful.
Oh yeah a schedule is a big one too. We haven't worked one out yet. I'm thinking the earlier the better. He works his best first thing in the morning.
The thing is, I don't know what needs to be accomplished. The paper is written in teacher, not parent, lol. So that's why I'm headed over to his old school this morning. Hopefully the principal can help me figure it out...
Thanks, I'll check out that group today too :-)

Hardest part for me was picking out curriculum and setting a schedule. A couple hours a day is more than sufficient. Teaching 9-3 or whatever is not necessary while homeschooling. Find a schedule that works for you.. 9-12, 2-4.. or 9-930 then again from 1-2.

I personally like the way our state handles homeschooling. I don't think all parents are created equal when it comes to the ability to educate their kids.
How does your state handle it?
And that's true. I didn't choose homeschooling becuase I wanted to. It was kinda thrust upon me :-/

Here are the guidelines:
Under Wash's Homeschool Law, the instructional activities must be provided by a parent who is instructing his or her children only and qualifies in one of these 4 ways:
1 - be supervised by a certificated teacher for one contact hour per week, OR...
2 - have earned 45 college-level credit hours or 1 year of college, OR...
3 -be deemed sufficiently qualified to homeschool by the superintendent of the school district in which you reside, OR...
4 - have completed a course in home-based instruction at a post-secondary institution or vocational-technical school
------
Why was it thrust upon you?

What does that mean? How are you being forced to homeschool? And if you are, is the district picking up the cost of the curriculum?
Have you looked at online academies like K12 and connections?
My little guy is going to start kindergarten in the fall, and we 90% sure we are going to use k12. We live in NC so its expensive, in most states its free.
I think those are resonalble guidelines. There should be some accountablity. Too many abuse homeschooling and it hurts the children.
