How to fix your credit report after I.D. theft? I recently made a post that I have become a victim of serious I.D. theft. It has pretty much stopped because he can't open anything else up in my name due not being approved because he took my credit score from the high 700's to the low 500's which means I too can't get approved for anything like a loan if I should need one or that new car I was going to buy my daughter in the next year and a half to 2 years.

I got 4 credit reports here and between them all it shows that he has opened or applied for at least about 30 bank accounts, loans, and credit cards in my name under my S.S.#.

We do know who he is, got him on several video tapes at several different stores, banks, and ATMs and we are prosecuting it's just a matter of finding him but in the mean time I have got to get my credit cleaned up back to what it was and don't know where or how to begin.

You can dispute anything on your credit reports that is incorrect. You can request that each credit agency send you the forms to fill out and return. They are obligated to investigate all claims. I would also get a copy of the police report, make copies of it, write a statement detailing what is going on and demand that it be included in your credit file with each agency. Good luck getting it fixed..

That sounds like allot of work. Maybe I am better off hiring an attorney to take care of it.

You need a Lawyer. Happened to a wealthy friend of mine. One of his cards caught it, and put out a fraud alert, one didn't and the guy changed the address and applied for a new card. He used that for a month and then took out a 25K cash advance.

My friend found out about it when a collections agency called him.  His lawyer had to enlist the aid of his bonding company (he is a stock broker and thus bonded)..Took about a year to get fixed even WITH video tapes of the withdrawal-done 400 miles away  AND the last name had been misspelled on botht the card and the advance.

I believe you have to either have contact with each credit reporting company, or with each company that was affected by the theft.
