The growing number of laws made to protect people from themselves? Anyone else feel that we, as a society are growing dumber simply because 'survival of the fittest' cannot come into play? If someone isn't intelligent enough to wear a seatbelt while riding in a car going 70 mph.... do we really want them procreating? Are my feelings on this subject way too harsh?

Anyone wanna contribute their favorite 'save me from my own stupidity' laws?

You can all please stop posting the many benefits of seat belts. It was a bad example. I should have used helmet laws for bikers as my example.  Also, the projecile argument doesnt go over well with me since my dad was thrown into another car from his motorcycle. So until (god forbid) bikers have to wear setbelts, that point is moot to me.

I agree with you 100%.  Society is being dumbed down at an astounding rate.  It's ridiculous that there needs be a "caution:hot" warning on hot coffee Duh!!

Our country is going bankrupt taking care of people who make stupid decisions and cannot take care of themselves.  It's out of control.

The one in LA, that's says you need to wear a condom if you're making a porn. That's a dumb law, but, to be honest it doesn't effect me in any ways.

The laws have to be there because of lawsuits that have gone out of control.  If people wouldn't stop sueing for stupid things, we wouldn't need this type of thing.

When my youngest was 3, she got her fingers in my dad's exercise bike, causing some pretty severe damage.  It was MY fault - not the manufacturer of the bike, or my dad.  Our health insurance company kept pressing me to sue both of them.  In fact, had I not had a background in insurance, I would have thought I had to.  I simply refused, and eventually my insurance company paid (as they were supposed to).

I was thinking along these lines as well. It was actually the parents suing the school for trying to protect their kid that made me think of posting this. I cannot thinkof a way to link sue-happy people with stupidity though, because most of the time it's simple greed. Like in the case of this insurance company.

Oh, I know.  The greed is definately there.  For the insurance company it's a business decision, one that's been (sadly) upheld by courts.

My sister in law is one of those "riches through litigation" people.  She has probably sued more people, companies, and government agencies than anyone can think of!

In Washington state you can't drive and talk on the phone unless it is hands free well sort of hands free. You can hold the phone but it must be on speakerphone. Now this goes even further to say that cops and fire fighters can talk on the phone while driving company vehicles but as soon as they are off duty no more talking on the phone. So they aren't distracted while on the job and talking on the phone but they are distracted when off duty.

This one I kinda agree with, tho. This law isn't only protecting you from *you* lol. it's protecting others on the road from your distracted driving as well. As far as police go, yea it makes no sense, but they have to be able to communicate while on the go. It's part of their job decription, to stay informed.

Well, may I congratulate her for greatly contributing to the detriment of our society?
