Miranda Lambert: Chris Brown at the Grammys 'not cool'

WENN

Country star Miranda Lambert was far from impressed with Chris Brown's performances at Sunday's Grammy Awards, because she feels the R&B singer had no place at the ceremony -- on the third anniversary of his assault on ex-girlfriendRihanna.

In a series of Twitter posts on Monday, Lambert wrote, "Chris Brown twice? I don't get it. He beat on a girl... Not cool that we act like that didn't happen."

Lambert, whose parents ran a shelter for abused women when she was growing up, even suggested Brown listen to her country song about a woman preparing to murder her abusive husband upon his release from jail -- to put him "back in his place" after his night at the Grammys.

She later appeared to backtrack on her outrage, posting, "As for my tweets 'it's just one clowns (sic) opinion'. I love music and that's what it's all about."

Brown and his then-partner Rihanna pulled out of planned appearances at the 2009 Grammys after becoming embroiled in a violent bust-up on the eve of music's big night. He was later arrested, charged with assault, sentenced to hard labor and ordered to stay away from the Umbrella hitmaker. The restraining order against his ex, who also performed at Sunday's Grammys, has since been relaxed, but Brown is still on probation for his attack.

The singer made a big return to the prestigious awards show on Sunday as he took to the stage to sing his new track "Turn Up the Music" and take part in a dance tribute to late "Soul Train" creator Don Cornelius. He also won the night's Best R&B Album prize.

Neil Portnow, the president of The Recording Academy, the organizing body behind the Grammys, has already answered critics and defended his decision to invite Brown back to the ceremony, insisting the singer deserved the recognition for his successful "F.A.M.E." album -- but Lambert disagrees.

It amazed me the number of people that think dv is something that is okay.  People don't usually change.  They tend to get better at hiding what they are doing or choose a different method.  I don't like his music and I never have.  I do not agree with Rihanna's songs that she released after the fact.  However what happened to her is still horrible and just because she seems to dismiss it so easily doesn't make it right. I do agree the grammy's are supposed to be about music, but what about Janet Jackson?

I think she should have defended her statements. She's right. He should not have been honored.

I wish she stuck to her guns. As far as I'm concerned Brown can go to hell.

A man beats a woman, crys croc tears, waits a few years, wins awards & is cheered. Janet Jacksons slips a nipple at super bowl. Is banned from Grammys.

So according to society a womans nipple is more shocking/discusting/unacceptible than a grown 'man' beating a woman. This world.

He does need to realize that what he did was horrible. It hurts him more that it was a woman he beat, but even if it was a man he beat, it would still be the same. He did something disgustingly brutal and has to deal with it every day of his life. That'ss why he should have mad the right choice and controlled his anger in the first place. He is such a loser!

I agree wtih Miranda. It is really sad when such behavior gets rewarded.

I also agree she shouldn't have backed down.

I agree she shouldn't have backed down. Jack Osbourne said pretty much she did and he held true to what he said.

I agree with her 100% and also think she should have stuck to her guns. He is arrogant beyond all measure and any apology he has ever made was less about being sorry for what he did then the fact that he got caught.

Yup.  For personal reasons, my mom has been involved with battered women causes, so I'm especially sensitive to this.  I've used Chris Brown as a teaching moment for my 15 year old daughter, to teach her how important it is to respect yourself and not put up with abuse.  Rhianna handled it very well.

Is it the goal of the Grammys to honor achievements in music or to give awards and honor those that never make mistakes or break the law? If its the later than the time spent honoring performers such as Whitney Houston and Amy Whinehouse wouldn't be given the attention they are.

So people can't grow, change, and learn from their mistakes? Not saying abuse is right, but he grew up in a home where there was abuse. People need to understand your children are sponges. Rihanna moved on, the world needs to move on. JMO
