Josh Powell burial controversy

Should the grandparents of the Powell children be able to legally stop Josh Powell's family from burying Josh in the same cemetary as the children he murdered?

Josh's sister wanted to bury him near his children. Crime stoppers and a local radio station has helped buy up burial plots around the children to keep him away, but their maternal grandparents are filing a restrainng order to to bar his family from being burying him anywhere in the the cemetary.

"Just to make sure that no plaques or no mention of Josh or he or anybody are around those boys that doesn't deserve to be or need to be," said department spokesman Ed Troyer. "We think that is a place people are going to go -- they're going to be hurting for years and years and years around here and we didn't want any chance of Josh being there

I am torn on this. While I understand the pain of the maternal grandparents I don't see how they can legally block his family from burying him by or even near his children. It is a public cemetery. If they want to stop it they probably should have found a private cemetery.

Wow- tough. I don't see how Susan Powell's parents can stop him from being buried anywhere in that cemetery though. I agree with a pp- they should have found a private cemetery to lay the boys to rest if this is an issue for them.

How sensitive of Josh's sister to want to put his grave near the boys, so whenever the grandparents go to visit all they have left of their family, the family Josh destroyed, they will have to be reminded of Josh.

I guess indecency runs in that family.

I was thinking the same thing. So inappropriate.

I think his sister is on crack....how can she defend him? I would have disowned him by now, and ran to the mom's side of family in a heartbeat to be of support to them, not to the piece of shit monster. Is she in denial or what. Wake up and smell the coffee! Your BROTHER killed his innocent kids on PURPOSE. No accident. I wish I could meet her in person and tell her to wake the hell up dumb bitch!

Hmmm, if the cemetary is privately owned..where I come from the funeral home owns them...the business could simply refuse to sell them a plot.  If it is city owned the city could probably rush though some type of legislation barring murderers from being buried in the same cemetary as the victim..idk...the state might could take this up too.  I would support it if it was me.

Personally, I think is beyond horrible there is even this discussion.

Does he have more than one sister?  Everything that I heard about his sister up until now, it sounded like she hated her brother (and father) and thought he was guilty of murdering Susan.  And I didn't think she thought he should have his boys.  If it's the same sister, I don't understand the about-face.

I think the community (as it is a public cemetary) should be able to vote on it. I think it's in bad taste, and wrong, but it's not illegal.
