Oklahoma Senate OKs anti-abortion ‘personhood' bill

 Here we go again...

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Senate has overwhelmingly approved an anti-abortion “personhood” bill that declares life begins at conception, despite objections from the medical community that the bill could have dire unintended consequences.

The GOP-controlled Senate voted 34-8 for the bill by Tulsa Republican Sen. Brian Crain. It now heads to the House for consideration.

Crain says the bill is modeled after a 1986 Missouri law that was later determined by the U.S. Supreme Court to be constitutional. It provides embryos and fetuses with “all the rights, privileges, and immunities” of other citizens.

The bill is opposed by the Oklahoma State Medical Association, which represents about 5,000 doctors and medical students in the state.

Oklahoma City reproductive endocrinologist Dr. Eli Reshef described the bill as an “embarrassment.”

Wow.
If people really, really want to stop abortion why don't they legislate for comprehensive sex education that includes abstinence and the appropriate use of a variety of b/c. Rather than giving rights to an embryo, that cannot survive without the person it's growing in.

Birth control just doesnt grab the emotions like saying you are murdering a poor lil baby.

That would give young men and women the tools they need to make responsible decisions. Who wants THAT!?

This is just bad news bears. Maybe we should start arresting people for being an organ match for somebody but not donating. What about the sick person's right to life???

Hoorray!  Now we can cram our prisons with women who have miscarriages!

Apparently not.

The fact that this kind of bill can get passed scares the crap out of me. How long until women who have a miscarriage are investigated because of an off color comment or "neighborly" suspicions? SMH

I know. At least Mississippi put to the people for a vote and they voted it down.

Good. I hope other states follow their lead. Hopefully in my lifetime abortion will be illegal.
