I heard on the radio that the Obama adminastration wants to increase the budget for food stamps by 75,000 dollars to groups so more people can get food stamps. I may have heard the amount wrong. But what do you think?
I think enough people get it and some of those people don't even need to be on FS...they need to evaluate candidates more not put us into more debt!!

They are actually offering grants of 75K to groups that can help get more people who qualify sign up and to get past the pride part of not taking them.

Honestly I think the entire welfare system, from FS to Section 8 to Medicaid and every other program, needs to be overhauled. Too many people abusing it, too many people who need the help are being denied because of income limits that are too low sometimes, too many people having delays in their benefits because of overworked staff as well as understaffing, and the list goes on.
I've been fortunate enough to never have needed to use any type of PA, but posts like this one on this site as well as others always make me curious about the income limits and when I look them up, they seem kind of low for some of the programs and insanely low for others like Medicaid for adults. You pretty much have to be a homeless hobo to get on Medicaid if you're an adult unless you're a pregnant woman.
Overhaul the entire system, not just FS.

I agree. I HATE seeing abuse of government aid since when we needed it, we were not able to get it. We were being honest. We could have lied and gotten it like so many others. We never wanted to STAY on any help. My husband lost his job and so did my mom and she moved in with us. So nobody was working in our house, while everyone was looking for a job. The FS people said that because we had a nice house and car we didn't qualify. That basically we would have to lose the house or car or both to qualify. That is so stupid. We were trying to not spend any savings on food so we could keep up with our car and house payment and not get behind. Now, three months later, we're still behind on the house and car because while we went trhough all that, we still had to buy food. Had we gotten the FS, we would likely already be off the food stamps and be caught up on our house and car payments. Then there are people with 5 kids in bad living conditions who don't keep jobs because "they're too hard" and sell the FS for drug money. UGHHHHHHHHH!

Foodstamps should be over hauled and so should low income housing. People who work get far fewer $$ amount in food stamps then those on welfare. Also in low income housing there are to many people living in 2 bedroom townhouses that don't have their kids living with them. I am speaking from what I know and what I have seen over the last 40 yrs.

And that's exactly the sort of thing that pisses me off about PA. It seems like it helps the wrong people more than the right people sometimes. Laziness pays big time in a lot of cases and then when you compare it to cases like yours where someone is just looking for a temporary helping hand in order to make it through a rough patch, it's "sorry but you've worked too hard and earned nice things so go an lose those first and then we'll help you out. How you're going to replace those things once you get a job and need that car back to get there, well who even cares?" That crap is infuriating to me.

Well I get FS and it was only once my Dh was hurt and can't work. I appreciate them for helping me in my time of need. As far as people that abuse them, that's on them. In my state and county, if you meet the income qualifications , you'll get them.
