(CNN) — Kevin Bacon and his wife Kyra Sedgwick… related?

The Hollywood pair married for 23 years are reportedly distant cousins.

The relation came to light while the two were participating in the PBS show, “Finding Your Roots.”

Through DNA research, it was found that they are distant relatives.

The couple has two children together.

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

If you do enough DNA searching I am sure far more of us are related to our friends and SOs than have any idea.

Eh well to each their own as consenting adults.

Oops. Here is something that will gross you out. I have a friend whose husband left her for his SISTER! This happened over the weekend. They were having some issues when she caught him looking at incest porn 2 months ago. Then Friday he told her he was leaving her. Now he is in a relationship with his sister. Anyone know anyone that did this? Was a total shock to everyone!

Fear of serious injury alone cannot justify oppression of free speech and assembly. Men feared witches and burnt women. It is the function of speech to free men from the bondage of irrational fears.

I think that if you are far enough out, it shouldn't be taboo. I mean, realistically, we are all distantly related. As for how far out, I think 4th or 5th cousins should be alright. Also, there is really only a 4% chance of having a child with deformaty or disability when the parents are even as close as siblings. Obviously it is not socially acceptable or even ideal.

That would completely freak me out.

So many people are distant cousins it ain't funny. I'm sure many of us our related to someone else on this site.

What creeps me out when I'm researching my family ancestry, seeing my family has been here going back further than 1790. Seeing that most people with the same surname in the area and sometimes the state were related. Then noticing all the surnames on your tree and thinking about all them guys you done dated in this same area with that same surname. Luckily my kids fathers aren't from around here and I have yet to make any connections. But I did find married cousins on my own tree.

I would imagine in small regions that there ware quite a few married couples that are distantly related to each other.

I don't care if they are distant cousins that is still nasty!

I saw a TV special on this a few weeks ago. Both Kevin and Kyra were doing a type of family history search.

Distant cousins is not the same as marrying first cousin Jethro and walking down the aisle to the musical theme from "Deliverance."

In my home town there are only so many black surnames (families) and as the generations pass, there are a whole lot of people that didn't pay attention on those old folks' porches to find out who married who .... so I know there are a lot of young folks that are messin around and are certainly cousins. I've stopped a couple situations. lol. Sometimes it's slim pickins

8th cousins isn't that bad but it's really odd chances that it would happen that close. Did anyone see the show where the Korean/Jewish lady was related to Barbara Walters?

My youngest brother in law married his oldest cousins daughter. It has taken me a while to wrap my head around that, relationship wise. I know genetically it isn't really an issue but they all grew up in the same small village. It is common for their culture though, they find it amusing that I am a little weirded out by it, lol.
